Dutchess County Legislature Seeks
Citizens for Committees and Boards

The Dutchess County Legislature is currently seeking citizens who are interested in volunteering to serve on a variety of committees and boards, which play an important role in offering guidance on key issues affecting our communities. This is a great opportunity for residents to get involved, share their expertise, and make a meaningful impact on the decisions that affect daily life in Dutchess County. 

Dutchess County Legislative ChambersThe Legislature is currently seeking volunteers interested in serving on the following committees and boards:

CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Member – 1 Year Term
The Citizens Advisory Committee on Domestic Violence works to solicit and consider advice and recommendations from the community-at-large with respect to the problem of domestic violence. This committee meets every fourth Tuesday of the month at 4:30 p.m.

CLIMATE SMART TASK FORCE
Member –Term ending June 30, 2026
The primary mission of the CSC Task Force is to support Dutchess County’s participation in the NYS CSC program, including the maintenance of its Silver-level certification. The Task Force also provides input and advisory support in the implementation of County Climate Action and Adaptation Plans, and reviews proposed actions and grant opportunities that pertain to climate and sustainability projects and initiatives. COMMUNITY SERVICES BOARD
Member – 4 Year Term
The Dutchess County Community Services Board created under New York State Mental Hygiene Law is advisory to the Department of Mental Health and works in conjunction with the Director of Community Services to develop annual, intermediate and long-range recommendations for meeting the mental health needs of Dutchess County. The Board will also review the program’s compliance with the terms and conditions of all applicable laws and regulations. ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT COUNCIL
Member – 2 Year Term
The primary mission of the EMC is to advise the Dutchess County Legislature and County Government on matters affecting the preservation, development, and use of the natural resources, features and conditions of Dutchess County that impact the quality of the environment. The EMC also considers matters referred to it by the County Legislature for research and recommendations. For further information and meeting dates, please visit https://dutchessemc.org/

FIRE AND SAFETY ADVISORY BOARD
Volunteer Fire Police Association of Dutchess County Member – 3 Year Term
The purpose of the Fire and Safety Advisory Board, shall be to serve in a consultative capacity to the Dutchess County Legislature, the Standing Committees of the Legislature, and the principal heads of the County Departments, Commissions, and Agencies, in matters pertaining to the suppression, prevention, and relief from the ravage of fire and other disasters which may be the obligation of the Fire Service of the County.
The board meets bimonthly, third Monday starting in January at 7:00 p.m.

FISH AND WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT BOARD (DISTRICT 3)
Landowner Representative (alternate) – 2 Year Term
Must reside on rural lands that engage in production of agricultural commodities or forest products. Encourages the preservation and development of fish and wildlife resources on privately-owned lands and waters, and to improve public recreational access to these resources. This Board meets March, June, September, and December on the third Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

STOP-DWI POLICY PLANNING BOARD
Member – Open Term
The Dutchess County STOP-DWI Program’s mission is to deter drunk/drugged driving through enhanced enforcement, prosecution, rehabilitation, and education services. This program meets on the second Tuesday during the months of January, May, June, September, and December at 3:30 pm. For further information, please visit STOP-DWI.

TICK TASK FORCE
Member – 2 Year Term
The mission of the Tick Task Force is to develop long-term goals and make recommendations to the Legislature in the efforts of understanding and safely controlling ticks and reducing Lyme Disease and other tick-borne diseases. The Tick Task Force meets March, April, May, August, September, and October at 4 p.m. For further information please visit:
