Dutchess County 2018 Historic Tavern Trail
Tabor-Wing House in Dover Plains, Friday, May 11th
Poughkeepsie, NY… After a sold-out kickoff event at Maura’s Kitchen of Millbrook in April, the Dutchess County 2018 Historic Tavern Trail series continues this week at the Tabor-Wing House, located at 3128 NY Route 22 in Dover Plains, on Friday, May 11th, at 6:30 p.m. The Historic Tavern Trail brings history and local cuisine together, while introducing the community to iconic locales, with each installment held at a different historic location. The 2018 series focus is “Remembering the Great War: From the Western Front to the Home Front,” exploring a variety of different angles and individual stories of 1914-1920, from the state of local communities before the war to the fate of veterans after the Treaty of Versailles.
The May installment of the Tavern Trail series will be a catered event at the Tabor-Wing House, home of the Dover Historical Society. Participants will hear the “rest of the story” of six men from Dover who in the Great War. The discussion will cover some of their exploits on the Western Front, but the focus of the presentation will be what these men did after returning home from the war, how they shaped the town of Dover and what they are remembered for locally.
The Tavern Trail is a collaborative endeavor between the Dutchess County Department of History, the Dutchess County Historical Society, and local historical societies to create an innovative program that highlights the county’s rich history.
Future installments of the 2018 series will visit Hotel Tivoli on June 8th, the East Fishkill Historical Society in Hopewell Junction on July 20th and Millerton American Legion Hall on September 21st.
