Molinaro EXTENDS Travel Restrictions until 8am on Thursday, March 8th

Down wires, trees, and branches causing road hazards

Poughkeepsie, NY… Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro, in consultation with the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police and local utility providers has amended the emergency order restricting travel in Dutchess County under a countywide State of Emergency declaration.  The emergency order restricting travel on all roadways within Dutchess County has been extended until Thursday, March 8th at 8:00am.

The Dutchess County Emergency Operations Center has been receiving multiple reports of down power wires, trees and branches causing hazards on roadways. The travel ban has been extended to ensure full daylight visibility tomorrow.

Dutchess County Government offices will open at 10:00am on Thursday, March 8th.

County Executive Molinaro said, “Road conditions are very hazardous at this point and likely will continue to be for several hours. For the safety of our residents, we are extending the travel ban until 8:00am on Thursday, March 8th to allow crews to address road conditions and allow better visibility on roadways.”

The emergency order states: “Travel on roadways in Dutchess County is restricted except for: medical and health facility personnel, law enforcement and public safety personnel, first responders, utility, maintenance and public works personnel, snow removal sanding, salting and clearing operations personnel, facility operations persons deemed necessary for plant operations by their employers and public and government personnel involved in the emergency operations.”

The state of emergency is issued pursuant to Section 24 of New York State Executive Law. It is enforceable by local, county and state law enforcement agencies.
