New York Giants star Odell Beckham shone the national spotlight earlier this week on our great Dutchess County park, Dutchess Stadium, when the former NFL Rookie of the Year joined other Giants, past and present, for a charity softball game at the park in Fishkill.

In the process, people across the state, across the nation and even around the world have known for years: Dutchess Stadium, and all our award-winning parks, provide countless recreational opportunities for individuals and families.

"Dutchess Stadium is a great asset and a great attraction," County Executive Marc Molinaro said at Monday's charity event, which benefited the Ryan McElroy Children's Cancer Foundation. Giants punter Brad Wing, who organized the game, has hosted similar events at parks throughout the region, and he said once Dutchess Stadium, he knew it the park would be a great venue. "It's such a great facility, and we thought it would be perfect for the event," he said.

Monday's event was just the latest recognition Dutchess County parks have received. Last week, the Hudson Valley Trail Network, comprised of the Dutchess Rail Trail, the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park and the Hudson Valley Rail Trail, was voted into the Rail-Trail Hall of Fame, receiving almost 54 percent of the 19,885 total votes placed in a nationwide public vote. For the sixth time in eight years, readers of Hudson Valley Magazine fall voted Bowdoin Park as the area's top park in the publication's annual "Best of the Hudson Valley" poll.
