Hello Residents,
I am pleased to share another month of successes with all of you in our great City of North Las Vegas! From ribbon cuttings to grand openings and more, we have been working hard to make 2023 a year of nonstop momentum!
With all of the great advances we have made, it is important to remember our history and roots which is why I would like to remind everyone that February is Black History Month. We live in a City of diversity, and I choose to celebrate that and continue to learn more about our different histories to better serve each and every one of you. I am grateful to be the first African American mayor in the history of Nevada, and I look forward to helping shape the City of North Las Vegas.
Yours in service,
Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown
News From Your Mayor
Earmarks Success!
I am so proud to report that for Fiscal Year of 2023, the City of North Las Vegas was granted the most federal earmarks of any jurisdiction in Nevada, resulting in more than $6.3 million for resident services and programming!
Eight of our requests were approved in the federal omnibus budget to fund police, fire, court, utility, community services, and economic development programs and projects within the City of North Las Vegas.
These funds will directly impact and benefit you, our residents, and I am so excited to move forward and continue our plans to make our City and neighborhoods the best they can be by providing the resources necessary to do so.

Assembly Bill 30
Some important news I want to share with you is that the City of North Las Vegas has proposed an inclusive recruiting legislation for our police department. This Assembly Bill removes the requirement to be a U.S. citizen to become a police officer in the State of Nevada and allows any individual who is legally authorized to work in the United States to become an officer. AB30 not only helps law enforcement agencies with recruitment efforts, but also aims to further diversify police forces in order to better reflect the unique communities they serve.
As our Economic Director, Jared Luke stated, “We are continuing to work diligently to bring equity to all aspects of government, advocate and prioritize our diverse residents and community needs, including safety and inclusion. And that’s exactly what we are attempting to do via our proposed legislation this year.”

MLK Day Parade!
It was a thrill to join the 41st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade in Downtown Las Vegas! Thank you to all of those who came out to watch and honor the late Martin Luther King Jr., and thank you to all who helped put on this excellent parade. I am honored to once again be included, and look forward to next year!
Business of the Month!
I want to extend a special congratulations to our February business of the month, Lighthouse Charities! Lighthouse Charities empowers refugees through comprehensive services so they can rebuild their lives, prosper and contribute to the vitality of our community. They strive to help refugees across the valley and especially focus on supporting those in need within the first 6-12 months, as those months are the toughest.
Thank you for all you do for those in need in our community and across Nevada, we are so grateful!
Minority Business Development Agency (MDMA) Capital Readiness Program
On January 13, I met with Donald “Don” R. Cravins, Congressman Horsford and other elected officials to participate in a roundtable discussion about the newly announced MBDA Capital Readiness Program NOFO that was announced on December 21, 2022. The purpose and mission of the program is to empower minority and other underserved entrepreneurs to grow and scale their businesses by becoming capital ready. This program will provide funding to incubators, accelerators, and other eligible organizations across the country with expertise to support underserved entrepreneurs by providing training and other critical resources, tools, and technical assistance to access capital.
Thank you to all who participated in the discussion, and thank you to Don for providing this wonderful program!
Born & Raised, hungry and food-crazed!
Another day, another addition to Restaurant Row! Friday the 13th proved to be a lucky day for the City of North Las Vegas as we welcomed Born & Raised to our City! To honor their City of North Las Vegas location, they added a private room called “War Room,'' which is a tribute to Nellis Air Force Base and our country’s armed forces. This room will be open for private parties and rentals in the coming months following this opening.
Their menu features “bar bites,” which are snack-sized dishes that range from chicken taquitos, to mac and cheese bites, all the way to fried brussels sprouts! They also offer breakfast, sliders, desserts, and of course drinks!
We are so honored to host the third location of this fun and tasty bar, and look forward to watching their success grow in our City! Stop by and try it out - you won’t regret it!
Arvato, Moen and groundbreakings… Oh my!
January was a month of new beginnings as Arvato officially opened a new warehouse, and Moen, Prologis and Layon Construction LLC broke ground on a new distribution center ALL in our City of North Las Vegas!
Arvato will be handling the logistics for supplying Meta's data centers, and for those who don’t know Meta is currently the social metaverse company behind Facebook, Instagram and more!
As for Moen, Prologis and Layton Construction, LLC, the 680,314 square-foot facility slated to open in 2024 will serve as a distribution center for Moen, one of the largest faucet and fixtures brands in North America.
I have said time and time again, our City is committed to creating a vibrant, economically diverse community and is leading Southern Nevada in capital investment and development and we show this to be true with each and every ground breaking and ribbon cutting.
Thank you Arvato, Meta, Moen, Prologis and Layton Construction LLC for choosing the City of North Las Vegas as your home!

Cocktails and Conversations with the Vegas Chamber of Commerce!
On January 17, I was invited to the Aliante Casino & Hotel to meet with the Vegas Chamber of Commerce to have a conversation on today’s economy. The event, titled “Cocktails and Conversations,” is part of a fundraising event series.
It was a wonderful night getting to talk to so many Vegas Chamber members and connecting on ideas for the future of our cities in Southern Nevada. Thank you to the Vegas Chamber and the Aliante Casino & Hotel for hosting this fabulous event.
Canyon Springs High School Micro Grant Kick-Off Event
On January 23, I visited Canyon Springs High School to talk to over 700 educators for their kickoff event funded by the Micro Grant the One Canyon feeder alignment was awarded in December 2022. I shared information about our City's Micro Grants Program and how their feeder alignment was one of the awardees this past year. Seeing the faces of so many diverse educators who are making great impacts on our students is one of the reasons why I am so proud that we have the Micro Grants Program to help them achieve their goals and do the best they can for the future of our children.
It was an absolute pleasure to see educators and friends from my days as an educator myself, and I am looking forward to seeing how these schools and educators progress for years to come.
Vegas Valley Police Graduation!
The City of North Las Vegas Police Department was beyond thrilled to celebrate the graduation of 16 City of North Las Vegas recruits from the Vegas Valley Police Academy! The newly-minted police officers will undergo thorough field training and evaluation for the next six to eight months and will serve constituents from two City of North Las Vegas police stations.
Graduates completed an intense six-month academy that introduced them to the basics of policing. The academy establishes qualifications, training and standards for Nevada’s peace officers; provides instruction on local, state, and federal laws; develops leadership skills; and emphasizes customer service and community engagement.
Congratulations, grads! We are so honored to be your home away from home and can't thank you enough for choosing to protect our City.
Boxabl Momentum!
This month, the City of North Las Vegas celebrated the completion of Boxabl's SECOND factory in less than TWO YEARS! Boxabl is adding to their current factory space located in the City of North Las Vegas with a new 130,000 square foot building, bringing their total footprint to 170,000 square feet! This expansion is an important step in the growth of Boxabl and its ability to build quality, affordable homes in less time and in a more energy efficient manner.
The second factory will increase Boxabl’s headcount to 600 and enable the company to manufacture 5,000 housing units annually, roughly 10 units per day.
“The Boxabl mission is to significantly lower the cost of homeownership for everyone. Obsessively designed to the highest standards of quality, strength, and sustainability to last for generations.” - Boxabl
