Dear Neighbors,

Veterans Day is also around the corner. Thank you to all the brave veterans for their unwavering dedication to our country. I am grateful to each one for all the freedoms that we get to enjoy due to the sacrifices they made. There are two special events happening on Veterans Day that I'd like to highlight:
Join us downtown Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. along Fourth Street between Garces and Stewart avenues for the annual Veterans Day Parade as we come together to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. This special community celebration is an opportunity to show our gratitude, recognize the sacrifices of our veterans, and celebrate the freedom they have helped protect. Bring your family and friends, show your support and help us honor the heroes who have given so much for our nation!
The Nevada State Veterans Memorial will be dedicated at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 11 by Mayor Shelley Berkley, Councilwoman Francis Allen-Palenske, and state officials. Additional details about this exciting event are below.
As the holiday season nears, I'm excited to invite all Ward 3 seniors to my annual Thanksgiving luncheon Friday, Nov. 20, from noon to 2 p.m. Please RSVP today!
Yours in service,

Honoring Our Veterans
Wednesday, Nov. 11, 4:30 p.m.
Join Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley, Ward 4 Councilwoman Francis Allen-Palenske, state officials and local veterans for the opening of the new home of the Nevada State Veterans Memorial. The memorial is located at the northwest end of the Thunderbird Family Sports Complex, 6105 N. Durango Drive.
The event will include the presentation of the colors by the Joint Armed Forces Color Guard and is scheduled to begin with a flyover courtesy of Nellis Air Force Base. The memorial is a partnership of the State of Nevada, the city of Las Vegas and the Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, an independent 501 (c)(3) nonprofit that supports city initiatives.
The memorial features 18 larger-than-life bronze statues by sculptor Douwe Blumberg that were relocated from outside the former Grant Sawyer state building to their new permanent location in the northwest region of the city of Las Vegas. The statues, which each stand an impressive 7.5 feet tall, were originally commissioned by the state in 2011 to honor American military service from the Revolutionary War through present day.
The event will be broadcast live on city of Las Vegas TV, and on the city of Las Vegas TV YouTube channel.
Along with the memorial, the project includes a beautiful open-air promenade, complete with landscaping, an amphitheater and informational signage. This project establishes a permanent home for these magnificent sculptures that honors Nevada’s 200,000-plus veterans in a dedicated place of healing, inspiration and education.

ARTS & CULTURE
Las Vegas City Hall Art Galleries
"Somos Magia" On Display Until Nov. 20
Experience the magic of "Somos Magia" a vibrant exhibition curated by Haide Calle. Explore the artwork and immerse yourself in a celebration of imagination, identity and creative possibility. Fantasy often offers us a place of comfort, a world we step into through storytelling, symbolism and creativity. As we grow, we discover spaces where we can escape, belong and dream. "Somos Magia" honors those spaces, reminding us of the power creativity has to shape how we show up, what we create and what we choose to believe in. The exhibition is on display until Nov. 20, 2026.
"Desert Peoples: Words from Ancestors" On Display Until Nov. 19
Come see this exhibition presented by the Nevada State Museum in partnership with the Springs Preserve, the Clark County Museum and the city of Las Vegas. The exhibition features a rare early 19th-century handwritten journal containing translations from Southern Paiute (Nuwu) into English, preserving words and meanings that had, in some cases, been forgotten over time. Also on display are other indigenous artifacts, many that are mentioned in the journal.
