Nov. 5, 2026
Hello Ward 1 neighbors,
This month, we’re highlighting opportunities to stay engaged, support your community and take advantage of resources available throughout the city.
Rainbow Company Youth Theatre returns to the stage with a production of "Sense & Sensibility" at Charleston Heights Arts Center, while active adults can enjoy several upcoming holiday luncheons and seasonal gatherings at city community centers.
We're also sharing updates on the recent Be Neighborly event, which brought neighbors together for a successful day of community beautification, resource sharing and neighborhood pride. If your neighborhood is interested in hosting a future Be Neighborly event, we encourage you to contact our office.
Residents looking for assistance or ways to save may be interested in the city's Care Coordination Program, the Home Modification Assistance Program for qualifying older adults, and the Switch Together solar program, which can help reduce the cost of solar installation. We're also highlighting opportunities to pay qualifying parking tickets through toy donations and receive a free shade tree in eligible neighborhoods.
Finally, we encourage everyone to support local families this holiday season through the community food drive and to explore upcoming workshops, camps and programs happening throughout Las Vegas.
More details, events and resources follow below. Thanks for staying connected to what's happening in Ward 1!
Very Truly Yours,
Ward 1 Team

Switch Together Program Helps Residents
Save On Solar Installation
City-Supported Program Offers Discounts on Solar Panels and Home Batteries
The Switch Together program is now available to our residents! Switch Together is a group buying program offered by the city of Las Vegas and national nonprofit Solar United Neighbors. It makes it more affordable for you to install solar panels and/or home batteries with a significant discount through the program as well as local incentives and rebates. Optional add-ons, such as home battery storage and electric vehicle chargers are also available. A rigorous vetting process takes place to confirm installer qualification, ensuring participants receive a high-quality installation from a trusted installer.
Switch Together also offers free educational webinars and in-person events to explain the process and benefits of going solar.
Through the current program, the average household is expected to save $6,543 on a high-quality solar installation. It is free to register, and there is no obligation to accept an offer if you register.
Interested residents have until Nov. 11 to sign up. If residents have any questions, they can visit the website, www.lasvegasnevada.gov/switchtogether.

'Be Neighborly' Event Near Alta & Cimarron
Thank you to everyone who participated in the recent Be Neighborly event held near Cactus Flower Court and Tobler Drive. Residents joined together to connect with neighbors, learn about community resources, and help beautify the neighborhood through curb and fire hydrant painting activities. The event also provided residents with convenient opportunities for bulk item disposal and document shredding.
The event was a tremendous success and showcased the pride, partnership and strong sense of community that make Las Vegas neighborhoods special. The city of Las Vegas appreciates the residents, volunteers and community partners who helped make the event possible.

Nevada Workforce Summit
Councilman Knudsen was grateful to have joined the 2026 Nevada Workforce Summit!
Councilman sat on the panel “Partnership That Works” with Mayor Pro Tem Olivia Diaz, Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong, Dr. Tammy Malich, and College of Southern Nevada President Dr. Stacy Klippenstein, moderated by Dr. Tiffany Tyler-Garner. They talked about how the city of Las Vegas and the College of Southern Nevada are working together to build training pathways that connect residents to good careers, starting with the Westside Education and Training Center (WETC).
For Ward 1, the Las Vegas Medical District keeps growing, and so does the need for skilled healthcare workers. Training centers like WETC show what’s possible when cities, colleges and employers come together, and Councilman Knudsen is excited about building a network that serves residents across our whole region.
Afterward, the councilman joined a conversation on healthcare apprenticeships and strengthening work-based learning pathways across education, workforce and industry.

Rancho Drive – Sahara Avenue To Charleston Boulevard, Plus Rancho Lane at Tonopah Drive
24-Hour Lane Restrictions Reduce Traffic To One Lane In Work Areas
Roadway improvements on Rancho Drive from Sahara Avenue to Charleston Boulevard, plus the intersection of Rancho Lane with Tonopah Drive, began Feb. 23, 2026. The project is expected to last approximately 18 months and have 24-hour lane restrictions, reducing Rancho Drive to one lane in each direction in work areas between Sahara and Charleston, with an added left-turn lane at signalized intersections.
The project began in two locations: the northbound lanes of Rancho Drive and the Rancho Lane/Tonopah Drive intersection. Motorists should expect traffic delays; I-15 or Valley View Boulevard are recommended as alternate routes for north/south travel. Download the map.
The work consists of removing existing roadway and constructing new roadway improvements on Rancho Drive, including pavement, concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter, cross gutter, bus turnouts, medians, storm drain improvements, water line improvements, underground utility infrastructure, pavement markings and markers, permanent signs, landscaping (including street trees and irrigation system), installation of street lights, traffic signal modifications and fiber-optic cable.
