Small Steps, Stronger Protection
Protecting yourself online does not require being a technology expert. A few everyday habits can help protect your accounts, personal information and devices.
-
Strengthen your sign-in. Use a different, long password for each account (if not OKTA-managed).
-
Pause before responding. Be cautious with unexpected emails or texts asking you to sign in, share information, open an attachment or make a payment. Even a familiar name deserves a second look. Verify the request using a trusted phone number or by opening the organization's official app or website yourself.
-
Keep devices updated. Install updates for your operating system, browser, apps and security software when prompted, and restart when asked. IT manages updates on work devices. On personal devices, enable automatic updates. Lock your phone or computer when you step away.
-
Report concerns and get help early. At work, report suspected phishing or a possible account compromise to CLV IT Security and Compliance Team immediately using CLV Service, before taking other steps.
Start with one action today: update a device, strengthen an account or help someone recognize an unexpected request.
Take The Employee Survey!
Every couple of years, our organization establishes a new thematic goal, a shared objective that aligns and unifies our efforts for a defined period. Our previous goal centered on employee wellness. While we are shifting focus, the wellness programs offered by our Organizational Development Team will continue to be available to all employees.
Our new thematic goal emphasizes customer service excellence, enabling us to elevate the quality of service we provide and strengthen consistency across departments. The new thematic goal is:
By December 2028, the city of Las Vegas will adopt a kind, committed and smart approach to customer service, improving experiences for internal and external customers.
Please see the video message below, created by our employees, and survey link to gather your perspective on customer service. For more information on the new thematic goal, please download the plan here.

Employee Benefits Fair Oct. 14
See what's new in employee benefits and visit vendor booths 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, in the Las Vegas Civic Center outdoor plaza and Civic Center's second-floor Public Meeting Room and Then Cafe. The open enrollment period for employee benefits will be Oct. 14-Nov. 17, 2026. Those benefits selected will take effect Jan. 1, 2027.
Benefits open enrollment is the one time each year when employees can add or change their benefit coverage. This year’s open enrollment is right around the corner, so now is a great time for employees who participate in a city of Las Vegas healthcare plan to start reviewing their current selections and considering what they might want to change.
You should also be aware that this year’s open enrollment will be an “active enrollment.” This means your current city of Las Vegas medical, dental and vision plan enrollments will not roll over into 2027. All employees who participate in a city healthcare plan must make a new enrollment choice for the new coverage year during the open enrollment period.
Monitor your mailbox for mailed communication providing additional updates about 2027 Benefit programs. Questions? Email hrbenefits@LasVegasNevada.gov.

What You Practice Grows Stronger: A November Mindfulness Journey
How do you speak to yourself when you make a mistake, feel overwhelmed, or fall short of your own expectations?
For many of us, the answer is very different from how we would speak to someone we care about.
In "Good Morning, I Love You," psychologist and mindfulness researcher Dr. Shauna Shapiro explores a simple but powerful idea: what we practice grows stronger.
|
Our brains are continually shaped by repeated experiences, thoughts and behaviors. This ability to adapt, known as neuroplasticity, means that qualities like attention, compassion and emotional awareness can be strengthened through practice.
Mindfulness is one way we practice.
At its core, mindfulness is the ability to intentionally bring our attention to what is happening in the present moment with openness and less judgment. Shapiro's research describes mindfulness as involving three interconnected elements: intention, attention and attitude. It is not simply about noticing what is happening, but also about how we relate to what we notice.
That distinction matters. Research examining mindfulness training has found that learning to observe an experience while also approaching it with acceptance can help reduce daily stress. In one randomized study, participants who were taught both present moment awareness and acceptance reported lower stress than those who were taught attention skills alone.
This November, we invite you to explore these practices for yourself through a guided reading of "Good Morning, I Love You."
Join the "Good Morning, I Love You" Book Club for November
Throughout the month of November, we will take a guided journey through "Good Morning, I Love You" by Shapiro, an internationally recognized expert in mindfulness and self-compassion.
You will read the book at your own pace while participating in guided reflections, optional virtual discussions, and mindfulness practices designed to bring the concepts to life. We will begin with a kickoff session to introduce the journey and conclude with a closing discussion to reflect on key takeaways and personal insights.
What You’ll Gain
- Greater resilience in the face of stress
- Practical mindfulness techniques for everyday life
- A deeper understanding of self-compassion and emotional well-being
