Saturday, July 25, we will be hosting the 2026 Ward 5 Back-To-School Fair at the Doolittle Community Center!
School-age children who attend will have the opportunity to receive free backpacks and school supplies, while supplies last. Children must be present to receive these items. We invite all school-age children and families to join us, enjoy the festivities and get ready for a great school year ahead.

Southern Nevada Housing Policy Forum
Monday, July 20, I had the pleasure of attending this year’s Southern Nevada Housing Policy Forum, hosted by the Nevada Housing Coalition at the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas.
The forum brought together local elected officials, housing providers, developers, business leaders, advocates and community partners for a day of meaningful conversation and collaboration.
The discussions helped spark ideas for expanding housing opportunities and will help shape legislative priorities for our community.
Good Trouble Vigil Honoring Congressman John Lewis
Sunday, July 19, I joined the National ActionNetwork, PLAN Nevada, Indivisible, and community members for the Good Trouble Vigil to honor the legacy of the late Congressman John Lewis.
The vigil recognized Congressman Lewis's lifelong commitment to civil rights and reminded us of the importance of protecting every American's constitutional right to vote. It was an honor to stand alongside community leaders and elected officials united in support of civic engagement and equal access to the ballot.
Thank you to Reverend Bush and the event organizers for bringing our community together to honor Congressman Lewis and the countless civil rights leaders whose courage and sacrifice continue to inspire us.
Beals-Henderson Pointe Building Ribbon-Cutting
July 16, I joined Mayor Shelley Berkley and Councilwoman Nancy Brune for the ribbon-cutting of the new Beals-Henderson Pointe affordable housing development in Ward 5.
This celebration marked more than the opening of a new housing community. It honored the legacy of Alversa Beals and Essie Henderson, two civil rights leaders whose advocacy helped shape policies that improved the lives of working-class and low-income families throughout Nevada.
Now fully leased, this beautiful community provides more than 80 families with a safe, stable place to call home while helping strengthen the future of Ward 5.
Thank you to the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority and Michaels Development for your partnership and commitment to bringing quality, affordable housing and new opportunities to our community.

Bolden Area Command Youth Safe Night Out
Join us Friday, July 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. for a vibrant, family-friendly Youth Safe Night at Nucleus Plaza. Bolden Area Command and HOPMI Community Service are teaming up to host a fun evening filled with games, food and community resources that are all free for youth and family.
This event brings together local partners and organizations to provide kids with a positive, safe and welcoming space to enjoy the evening, connect with others and access helpful support services.
Bring your family, invite your neighbors, and come enjoy a night designed especially for our community's youth.

Splash Pads Now Open
Splash pad season continues! All city of Las Vegas splash pads are now open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Sept. 30.
The water is clean and safe, just like the tap water at home. The water is recycled through the same treatment process used throughout our community, helping conserve one of our most valuable resources.

Citizens Police Academy
We are now accepting applications for the city of Las Vegas Citizens Police Academy program! Apply online by July 29, 2026, or visit here for more details. Space is limited.
This academy runs from Wednesday, Aug. 26, through Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2026, with no class Veterans Day Nov. 11.
It offers civilians a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement and the city of Las Vegas Department of Public Safety, as well as the services the city provides.

Safekey Registration Now Open!

Fremont Street Experience Curfew Guidelines
Downtown Las Vegas is preparing for a busy season filled with events, nightlife and increased foot traffic. To help keep the community safe and maintain a welcoming atmosphere, the city of Las Vegas is reminding residents and visitors about curfew regulations currently in place for minors — especially in the Fremont Street area.
