Dear Ward 3 friends,

I hope you're ready to celebrate America's 250th Anniversary on Saturday! A number of fireworks shows are planned in Ward 3 and throughout the city. Find the closest one to you here!

Talking about celebrations, yesterday’s City Council meeting was truly special. My colleagues, Councilwomen Nancy Brune and Francis Allen-Palenske, were sworn in to their second terms, and I had the honor of being appointment mayor pro tem.

One of the highlights of my day was welcoming a wonderful group of Girl Scouts who spent the day at City Hall, witnessing democracy (and women leaders!) in action as they earned their Democracy Badge. Thank you to all the city departments who took the time to engage with them. The girls also met with representatives from the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office and Congresswoman Dina Titus’s Office, giving them a fuller picture of how local, state and federal governments work together.

Thank you all for making it such a beautiful day in the city of Las Vegas and for continuing to inspire me to serve our community with pride and gratitude.

Girl Scouts Visit City Hall

Girl Scouts and their proud moms met with City Clerk LuAnn Holmes and Chief Deputy City Clerk Pat Cabrera. Fun fact: The U.S. flag in the frame behind them was the first flag to ever fly in our city.

Dog Park Now Open At The East Las Vegas Family Park

On June 4th, I was ecstatic to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of the dog park at East Las Vegas Family Park! Many families living near the park reached out and told us they needed a safe, dedicated space for their dogs. Many thanks to the dedicated city staff, and our partners AtkinsRéalis and JNJ Engineering for helping us bring this wonderful new amenity for our four-legged residents.

Rhythm & Resilience Curator Tour

Las Vegas Civic Center Gallery, 525 S. Main St., Building A

Join Carmen Beals, curator of "Rhythm and Resilience: Black Vegas," for a tour of the exhibition before it closes Aug. 20. Free and open to the public. No need to register in advance, all are welcome.

A two-hour free parking validation is available for those who park in the City Hall garage at 500 S. Main St.
