April 16, 2026
Hello friends and neighbors,
I’m writing to you from Tulsa, Oklahoma, where I am attending the 2026 Main Street Now Conference and learning new strategies to strengthen the social, civic and economic well‑being of Ward 5 and the greater Las Vegas community. Each session offers valuable opportunities to gain new knowledge, build skills and explore solutions to issues impacting our neighborhoods. I look forward to bringing these proven approaches home and putting them into practice.
We also have several exciting events happening in our community this weekend! On Saturday, April 18, the city of Las Vegas will honor this year’s Legacy Park Inductees—individuals who have made a meaningful and positive impact on Ward 5. Following the ceremony, we’ll head to the College of Southern Nevada’s Westside Education and Training Center for their community kickoff event. We hope you’ll join us and learn how you can take advantage of their no‑cost educational courses.
With that same spirit of progress and connection, our work continues. Be sure to check out the “Looking Ahead – Come Join Us!” section below for upcoming events and opportunities to stay engaged.
Wishing you a safe, enjoyable and inspiring weekend!
Warm regards,
Shondra Summers-Armstrong

Later that day, on April 10, my Special Assistant Julius Lightfoot attended the Power of One Luncheon hosted by Olive Crest. Olive Crest, a valued community partner located in Ward 5, is dedicated to supporting youth and families in crisis by providing vital resources and services.
Also in attendance were Mayor Shelley Berkley, Councilwoman Nancy Brune of Ward 6 and Councilwoman Francis Allen‑Palenske of Ward 4. It was a wonderful event focused on uplifting and strengthening families throughout Las Vegas.
Month Of The Military Child Celebration At Mabel Hoggard
This week, on April 15, Mabel Hoggard was proudly recognized as one of the 2026 Nevada Purple Heart Schools—an incredible honor that reflects the school’s unwavering commitment to supporting military‑connected students and their families.
In celebration of April as the Month of the Military Child, Mabel Hoggard hosted a joyful, ice‑cream‑filled event for students and their loved ones. My Special Assistant, Julius Lightfoot, joined the festivities and presented a Certificate of Recognition to the Active Military Kids Club, applauding their strength, spirit and community pride.
