The Ward 5 team remained busy in 2025, assisting developers and residents in navigating land use questions and the Planning Commission approval process.
By the numbers:

Planning Commission: 14 project approvals and 22 stand-alone applications, for a total of 36 approvals.

City Council: 50 project approvals and 85 stand-alone applications, totaling 135 approvals for Ward 5.
Looking Ahead to 2026 and Beyond We’re encouraged by the strong interest from both commercial and residential developers in Ward 5. Our goal is to foster a community rooted in opportunity—one that respects our existing built environment, culture, people and history while thoughtfully planning for future growth. It’s a challenging balance, but one we believe is achievable with careful, inclusive planning. The Ward 5 team remains here to help every step of the way.
2025 was a year of strong community engagement for the Ward 5 team. We participated in 100+ events, from ribbon cuttings and cleanups to cultural celebrations and educational workshops—each centered on connection, opportunity and service.

Love on Jackson (Feb.): Bringing the community together while supporting Jackson Street revitalization.

Faith Leaders Development Summit (March): Hosted Ward 5 faith leaders with local and national experts to explore development and affordable housing opportunities.

Historic Westside Legacy Park Induction (April): Honored community trailblazers whose contributions shaped our neighborhood.

Juneteenth at World Market Center (June): Celebrated culture and history with live performances and local vendors.

Back-to-School Drive (July): Distributed school supplies and 100 backpacks to students in need.

Westside Education & Training Center Grand Opening (Aug.): Launched GED and workforce training programs; canvassed 100+ nearby homes to spread the word.

Community Engagement (Sept.): Hosted land-use workshops, launched Sitting with Shondra, and sponsored an HBCU essay contest with winners attending the HBCU Football Classic.

Elder’s Day (Oct.): Honored seniors who serve as mentors and community pillars.

Housing & Holiday Events (Nov.–Dec): Hosted housing symposiums, partnered to light MLK Boulevard, toured Historic West Las Vegas with local bankers, and celebrated the opening of the new West Las Vegas Library.

Halloween Safe Night: Distributed 50+ lbs. of candy in a safe, family-friendly setting.

Thanksgiving: Helped provide 7,000 meals to seniors and families in need.

Christmas: Served 150 children at Milk & Cookies with Santa.
Neighborhood Cleanups We sponsored or co-sponsored six community cleanups, helping keep parks and shared spaces clean, safe and welcoming.

The Ward 5 team has remained focused on staying accessible and responsive to our community by answering questions, meeting with residents and advancing projects that benefit Ward 5.
By the numbers in 2025:
- Responded to 115 constituent inquiries, connecting residents with city departments including Neighborhood Services, Public Works, Youth Development & Social Initiatives and Economic & Urban Development.
- Received 409 meeting requests since June and completed 287 meetings—an 81% completion rate.
- Of those meetings, 109 were community-focused events such as groundbreakings, forums and organizational meetings.
We already have 56 meetings scheduled for 2026 and look forward to continuing this work.

Three Square Families across Southern Nevada are experiencing food insecurity, many for the first time. In response to the growing need, Three Square Food Bank is expanding emergency relief efforts to ensure no neighbor goes hungry.

The After Market
The After Market is a local grocery store in northeast Las Vegas providing food access in a food desert. As the only grocery store within a six-mile radius of the area, The After Market not only serves the general community, but also provides a food pantry for those in need, eliminating stigma and bringing forth inclusion.
