I hope you're having a great week so far! Below we've included June, July and August legislative and planning updates for Ward 6.
Also, over 200 legislative bills were signed into law from Nevada's biennial legislation session, and we'll feel the effects here in Las Vegas. Highlights include:
-
AB 194: Bans intentional outdoor release of helium-filled balloons. Violators face a $250 civil fine.
I enjoyed working with Christian Daniels and Nicole Bhat on passing AB 194.

SB 309: Increases penalties for second and third DUI offenses, including longer jail time and a lower blood alcohol content threshold for mandatory substance use evaluations.

AB 540: Establishes the $133 million Nevada Attainable Housing Account for builder loans, land acquisition, and support for essential workers like teachers, police and nurses. Also creates a Housing Council to oversee funds.

SB 427: Provides $300,000 to CSN Northwest Campus for continued planning and to extend Bureau of Land Management land-use rights through 2028.

SB 460: Overhauls K–12 accountability with a new school rating system, expanded student transportation aid, a statewide open enrollment system, and increased oversight of underperforming schools. Municipal trustees are now voting board members.

AB 211: Requires local governments to order repairs, rehabilitation or abatement when a multifamily rental property is in violation of habitability or safety codes and poses a substantial threat to resident or public health. If a property owner fails to comply, the city or county may seek a court order to declare property substandard and request the appointment of a receiver to manage necessary repairs.

AB 116: Prohibits food delivery platforms from processing online orders for food establishments that lack required local business licenses. It also bans unlicensed establishments from accepting such orders and imposes penalties on both parties for violations. Delivery platforms must remove noncompliant establishments from their listings within 10 days of receiving verified information or face daily fines.
