Dear Ward 3 Neighbors,
Happy Nevada Reading Week! The highlight of my week was reading to second and third graders at my alma mater, Sunrise Acres Elementary School. While Nevada Reading Week is an annual event, our Ward 3 schools always enjoy a guest reader. Please contact my office if you're interested in being a guest reader in our Ward 3 schools.
You're cordially invited to an important upcoming neighborhood meeting Wednesday, March 12, at the East Las Vegas Community Center to learn about a big transformation planned for Stewart Avenue from Sixth Street to Nellis Boulevard. The city received an almost $23 million federal grant to make drastic improvements to this very busy corridor in the ward. Please join us March 12 to learn more about this project and share your thoughts on this significant infrastructure project that will benefit our community. A flyer with event and project details is included below.
Yours in service,
Olivia Díaz
P.S. Meet Randy Robison, director of Government Affairs at the city of Las Vegas, on my latest "Access City Council" television episode to learn about the city's efforts at the current legislative session.
OUT & ABOUT IN WARD 3
Spanish Incubator Program Graduation
The city hosted a successful third annual Spanish Incubator Program in partnership with Nevada Small Business Development Center and UNLV’s Office of Economic Development. Forty-two entrepreneurs and small business owners completed a six-week series of classes that included topics like business development, licenses, contracts, marketing and financial overview. I’m incredibly proud of this program that offers entrepreneurs the tools they need to succeed as business owners.

Drip Repair & Intervention Program Available To Homeowners
The Las Vegas Valley Water District is collaborating with the city of Las Vegas to operate the Drip Repair and Intervention Program (DRIP). DRIP aims to address and remediate active water leaks that cause higher water bills in qualified homes, as well as reduce water waste.
Free Lead Paint Remediation Program For Qualifying Las Vegas Residents
Families living in homes built prior to 1978 are likely to be exposed to lead hazards. These hazards include: lead-based paint, lead contaminated dust and soil. Exposure to lead can cause serious health problems, particularly in young children. Their smaller, growing bodies make them more susceptible to absorbing and retaining lead. Lead poisoning is often not diagnosed until moderate or severe symptoms appear. The good news is that you can protect your family from lead poisoning.
For more information and eligibility requirements, please email SHIFT@LasVegasNevada.Gov or call 702.229.7444.
