Dear Ward 3 Neighbors,
I hope you had a peaceful holiday season with your loved ones and that your 2025 is off to a fantastic start. I kicked off the new year with residents of the Gateway District and community partners for a neighborhood cleanup. I'd like to thank all the volunteers that helped pick up over 480 pounds of trash. I'm also happy to report that the Las Vegas Arts Commission recently approved a project to paint AMP utility cabinets in the area, which will continue to beautify this neighborhood. Are you interested in bringing a cleanup to your neighborhood or volunteering at a future event? Learn more about the Keep Las Vegas Beautiful program.
I'd like to highlight a few city programs that assist city of Las Vegas homeowners and residents. We've partnered with the Las Vegas Valley Water District to offer the Drip Repair & Intervention Program to qualifying homeowners with up to $7,500 in financial assistance for repairs.
The Utility Tax and Sewer Rebate Program is available to seniors 60 years and older that income qualify to receive a rebate on tax payments made throughout 2024. Seniors can make an appointment by phone through March 14 with the East Las Vegas Community Center or Stupak Community Center in Ward 3, or with nearby city facilities: Dula Community Center, Doolittle Active Adult Center, and Howard Lieburn Senior Center.
The city offers qualifying homeowners and landlords FREE lead paint remediation through a program funded by HUD's Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes. Please visit Neighborhood Services for additional information on these valuable city resources.
Finally, the Neighborhood Partners Fund is a city grant opportunity that is open to all registered neighborhood, homeowners and business associations in the city to apply for up to $5,000 for a project. Interested applicants must complete a pre-application by Feb. 24. Click here to learn more and apply.
This Saturday, downtown Las Vegas will celebrate the Year of the Snake with the 13th annual Lunar New Year parade and cultural performances hosted by CNY in Desert. Please enjoy learning more about this and other amazing events happening in and near Ward 3.
Yours in service,
Olivia Díaz

OUT & ABOUT IN WARD 3
Senior Luncheon
I was very happy to host my annual Ward 3 Senior Luncheon at the East Las Vegas Community Center. A couple hundred seniors from across the ward joined me at this special celebration that included a traditional thanksgiving meal, dancing and fun prizes. A special thanks to the Vegas Golden Gals for their energetic dance performance, to the Cristo Rey Student volunteers for their help, the East Las Vegas Community Center and the city's Special Events team for making this beautiful event a huge success. This event would not have been possible without the support of our co-sponsors, Centerwell and Koolsville Tattoo.

Winter Wonderland Festival
More than 1,300 attendees participated in this year’s Winter Wonderland Festival that I hosted in partnership with La Campesina 96.7, Telemundo and Koolsville Tattoo. Our hearts were filled with joy knowing that each and every child walked away with an age-appropriate toy and had the opportunity to meet Santa. Thank you to all my co-sponsors and the community partners that helped us make the event a huge success!

I was honored to participate in the annual Tony Hsieh Day celebration at Strong Start Academy Elementary. Many thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Hsieh and Dr. Malich for planning a beautiful program that included a dance performance by Mrs. Hsieh, and a Chinese calligraphy lesson. Thanks to the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Hsieh, all the students received a tambourine, a handmade bookmark with their name written in Chinese calligraphy, and a Cane’s lunch.

Tour Of Carolyn G. Goodman Plaza and Civic Center
I’d like to thank Shelly Hayden, architectural project manager in our Public Works department, for the thorough tour of this impressive construction that will be ready for move-in this summer. Civic Center Building A at 525 S. Main St. will be the future home of our Cultural Affairs, Parks and Recreation Department, Innovation & Technologies, and Human Resources. Civic Center Building B at 70 Bonneville Ave. will be the future home of the Vegas Chamber and Workforce Connections.
The Carolyn G. Goodman Plaza will offer a performance pavilion and community gathering space, where approximately 2,500 people can be accommodated for musical and other staged events. The large lawn also provides opportunities for community functions like farmers markets, movies in the park, cultural gatherings and festivals.

The Just One Project
The entire Ward 3 team and our Cristo Rey St. Viator intern, Juan Sifuentes, toured the amazing home of The Just One Project with their equally amazing Founder and CEO, Brook Neubauer. She and her team shared their various programs helping address immediate food and housing insecurity needs in our community, while also offering resources that empower our community through youth programming and workforce development. Their newest food program, Groceries on the Go, launched Jan 23, is the first of its kind mobile grocery store that will offer nutritious food in neighborhoods lacking a local grocery store. They offer plentiful and rewarding volunteer opportunities.

Call for Artists
Aerial Gallery Artwork License
Deadline Feb. 6, 2025
We are seeking to license images of original artworks for the Aerial Gallery Banner Exhibition of vinyl banners along First Street, as part of the First Street Art Trail. Artists are encouraged to submit site-specific artwork, which directly responds to the neighborhood along First Street and themes presented by curator JK Russ, visually and/or conceptually.
The Aerial Gallery Banner Exhibition is a program aimed at bringing more visibility to the arts downtown. It is a strategic effort to enhance the urban streetscape by bridging the Arts District and Fremont Street via the First Street Arts Trail, as it passes by several key parts of the city's infrastructure. This program shares with the public a graphic reminder that Las Vegas is home to a dynamic community of working artists.

Majestic Repertory Theatre

A PUBLIC fit Theatre Company
A tale of sibling rivalry on steroids, True West is surely Sam Shepard’s signature piece. Set in a suburban California kitchen, the play follows Austin – a successful screenwriter – and his estranged brother Lee – a drifter with a taste for chaos – as they clash over an emerging screenplay that could change the course of both their lives. A darkly comedic examination of identity, envy and the destructive nature of competition, True West is a bona fide American classic.
