Dec. 1, 2023
Dear Neighbors,
We are just one day away from Cowboy Christmas! Get ready to dust off your boots and don your cowboy hats Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a festive day filled with country music and fun activities at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs (9200 Tule Springs Road). Saturday will be packed with fun for everyone, including a classic car show, arts and crafts fair, jump house and a special appearance by Santa Claus! In addition, there will be opportunities to help people in need at the car registration tent. Don't miss out on the holiday cheer!
In honor of National Giving Month, Ward 6 is hosting a winter clothing give-back drive for our guests at the Courtyard Homeless Resource Center (the city's low-barrier shelter for the unhoused). Just as the scorching summer heat comes with its own set of risks, the freezing winter cold can pose life-threatening challenges for those facing homelessness. If you have any gently used winter clothes and shoes you'd like to contribute, please stop by the Centennial Hills YMCA and place them in our drop box, or email us at ward6@lasvegasnevada.gov, and a Ward 6 team member can stop by your home and pick up the items.
As always, if there is anything Team Brune can do to assist you, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
At your service,

Councilwoman Nancy Brune, Ph.D.

"Superbug" Fungus Roundtable
Councilwoman Brune gathered elected leaders and healthcare stakeholders to discuss the rising number of "Superbug" fungus cases, Candida Auris, in Nevada and begin exploring potential solutions.
We extend our gratitude to UMC for graciously hosting our discussion and to Xenex for their valuable demonstration of an FDA-approved technological solution.

Posadas Equestre At Bradley Bridle Park
Escaramuza Charra Colibres de Nevada is bringing an event to Ward 6 that combines two traditions of Latin America, paying homage to our rural life and horse culture that makes Ward 6 such a unique place.
La Posada is a religious festival celebrated in Latin America that commemorates the journey Joseph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of a safe place to stay where Mary could give birth to Jesus. The tradition features singing processions, traditional food and beverage, and ends with the breaking of piñatas.
Mexican rodeo events feature an escaramuza, which is a presentation of women riders parading on horseback, dressed in ornately embroidered sombreros and colorful dresses, and guiding their horses in a synchronized routine.
Combining these two traditions, the Posada Equestre will feature a posada (procession) with female horseback riders. If you come out, you might catch sight of Councilwoman Brune on horseback. Her grandparents were from Mexico and she spent three years in rural Nicaragua, where her only form of transportation was a horse.
Bocaditos With Brune
Our next “Bocaditos with Brune” is Thursday, Dec. 14, and you are all invited! Stop by the Ward 6 Satellite office at the Centennial Hills Community Center / YMCA at 6601 N. Buffalo Drive from 9 to 11 a.m. to chat about your concerns, share your thoughts, and discuss all things Ward 6.

Free Microchipping Of Pets At The Animal Foundation
The Animal Foundation at 655 N. Mojave Road in Las Vegas has teamed up with the city of Las Vegas to offer free microchipping of pets in December, while supplies last.
Microchips are a permanent and reliable method of identification for a pet. One out of every three pets will become lost during their lifetime. Unlike a collar and tags that can easily fall off or be removed, a microchip is permanent. A lost pet can be taken to a veterinarian, pet supply store or animal shelter, where it can be easily scanned and the owner of the animal contacted.
About the size of a grain of rice, the microchip is injected beneath the surface of a pet's skin between the shoulder blades to provide a permanent form of identification. The process is similar to a routine shot, taking only a few seconds, and no anesthetic is required. Starting Aug. 1, 2024, all dogs and cats over the age of four months residing in the city of Las Vegas must have a microchip.
To schedule an appointment go online. For more information on the free microchipping, visit www.animalfoundation.com and view the upcoming events.
If you want/need the option to pay in cash, you may pay in cash at one of our city of Las Vegas Community Centers. Two of the centers nearest Floyd Lamb Park would be Centennial Hills Active Adult Center and Cimarron Rose Community Center; however, you may pay cash at any of our community centers and be given a receipt with a ticket number on it. Then show this ticket to the assistant at the Floyd Lamb Park Gate House to gain entry into the park. It is an extra step, but an option for those who do not want to purchase the daily parking pass or annual membership online in advance, or at the window using a debit/credit card.
