New Murals Bringing Color to the Historic Westside
A number of new murals are emerging on the walls of Historic Westside buildings. In January, Councilman Cedric Crear held a dedication event for new murals on the walls of the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd., created by local artist and project manager Chase McCurdy as well as muralists, Iandry Randriamandroso, X Darvi and Michelle Graves. The new murals are an extension of the mural wall that runs along the eastern boundary of the park, joining a previous mural that was completed in 2018 by artist Dray Wilmore.
Additionally, another mural is currently underway at the Obodo Collective, 1300 C. St.
The Historic Westside will continue to be the recipient of more large-scale murals, thanks to the city of Las Vegas, the Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas Life and Chase McCurdy. The city continues to look for property owners who own a building within the Historic Westside who would be interested in having a mural on their property. The city will work with selected owners to fund and facilitate the creation of an original wall mural by a professional artist. Identified establishments will need to review and sign the city’s wall use agreement to move forward once selected. There is no cost to the property owner to receive a mural.
Interested property owners can apply here. You must submit a letter of interest, business and mural location information, and an image of the space for the proposed mural.
