Renovated Floyd Lamb Park Hay Barn 2

Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs renovated hay barn

Hay Barn Ribbon-Cutting Oct. 12

The Hay Barn is open!

Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs is truly unique. This hidden treasure has been prized by our residents for generations, and it has always been our priority to make sure that it is maintained and protected for our current and future residents. Over the years, we have made many additions to the park, including new walking paths, mountain bike trails and a pump track that children of all ages enjoy racing around. Rehabilitation projects have included the restoration of the Adobe Hut, Foreman’s House, and Bridge.

This “jewel in the desert” has had a singular history. Fossil remains of early mammoths, bison, horses, and camels have been found in and around the park, and give scientists an idea of the creatures that inhabited this area. The Paiute Indians were known to have lived in the area hunting, fishing and planting, using the land for their survival in this dry climate. Tule Springs was the source of water supplying their daily needs. Later, prospectors, travelers and the stagecoach line stopped here because of the water as they traveled across the desert. In the 1940s, it became a working ranch. By 1964, the city of Las Vegas had purchased the property for use as a city park. The park was acquired by the state of Nevada by legislative action in 1977; on July 2, 2007, it was officially transferred back to the city of Las Vegas. Floyd Lamb Park has always stood out as something very special. That’s why, in 2017, when we discovered that the barn was being used as a storage yard for Parks & Recreation equipment, the roof was falling apart, and the walls and floors were in shambles, we had to make it a top priority to rehabilitate it and restore the barn to its former glory!

Now that the work is complete, we have created a special revenue fund that ensures that all revenue and proceeds received for reservations of this new area will be used to rehabilitate, restore, and maintain all of our historical buildings and assets (at Floyd Lamb Park) into the future. We want to thank all those who worked on this project, including our team at the city of Las Vegas. This project is true to our core purpose of “building community to make life better.”

City of Las Vegas Offers 2022 Arts Operating Support Grant Opportunities

Submission Deadline Oct. 20, 2022

The city of Las Vegas invites qualified arts and culture organizations and individual artists to submit applications for grants funded by the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and administered by the city of Las Vegas. The deadline to submit grant applications is Oct. 20, 2022.

Artists and arts organizations have been disproportionately impacted by the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic due to widespread shutdowns of performances, gatherings for exhibitions and travel and tourism to Las Vegas. In the Southern Nevada/Las Vegas community specifically, artists and creative professionals have lost work due to the shutdown of performance spaces at casinos and resorts and the closing of public spaces such as galleries. Overall, the pandemic has impacted a large section of this population.

With support of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and funds allocated to the city of Las Vegas American Rescue Program (ARP), the city of Las Vegas will award ARP funds to individual artists and nonprofit arts and culture organizations through a competitive grant program. These rescue funds are intended to mitigate financial hardship from the COVID-19 pandemic due to declines in revenue or profits.

Arts Operating Support Program funding is available through two separate competitive grant opportunities:
