Dear Neighbors,
Fall in Las Vegas is always a needed break from our infamous summer heat. We hope you have been staying safe and relaxed indoors while we enter our spooky season, otherwise known as, election season! I hope you enjoy reading about our latest news in Ward 1 and the fun events to look forward to this October.
This past month, my team and I had the chance to tour the new medical education building at UNLV's Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine. The facility is not only a gorgeous new addition to our neighborhood, but will also attract needed healthcare investments to Las Vegas in the coming years. The goal is to provide Nevada with a world-class medical district to serve our ever-growing population and expand services many have been traveling to other states for far too long. This new addition formally opened on Oct. 5 on Shadow Lane.
In other news, my team and I recently visited two elementary schools in our ward to present requested school supplies for this year. In collaboration with Las Vegas Firefighters Local 1285, we were able to purchase over 1k supplies for Wasden Elementary and Rose Warren Elementary. The children and staff at each school were delighted to have Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and Las Vegas Metro Police available to tour their vehicles and ask questions about their jobs as part of each event. If you would also like to help a local school, our next initiative is to collect new youth-sized sweatshirts and socks for the children at Red Rock Elementary. Drop-off locations for items are located at City Hall and at Mirabelli Community Center.
My office has begun to feature small businesses across the ward for you to discover! This September, we featured two deliciously different businesses: First, Calabash African Kitchen, which is located at 1750 S. Rainbow Blvd, serving a wide selection of delicious authentic Senegambian cuisine. Second, Starburst Parlor Keto Bakery, located at 2202 W. Charleston Blvd., serving the needs of those who might need a gluten and sugar-free treat! If you are interested in having your small business featured, please contact my office!
This month, I am hosting a three-in-one Halloween celebration for our ward. I hope to see you and the family there:
Trunk or Treat, Movie in the Park, & Community Fair Thursday, Oct. 27, at Mirabelli Community Center, 6200 Hargrove Ave., starting at 4:30 p.m. to end of the featured movie, Hocus Pocus. The movie will begin at dusk.
Would you like to meet with me? Saturday, Oct. 15, I will be hosting Brews with Brian from 9 to 10 a.m. at Jamm's Restaurant, located at 1029 S. Rainbow Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89145. Come and share your thoughts, ideas, and concerns about your neighborhood. Please R.S.V.P. to Ward1@lasvegasnevada.gov.
I look forward to seeing you and hearing from you!
Very truly yours,
Brian Knudsen

Ward 1 Wednesdays will be an opportunity for small businesses to be featured on my social media pages. This month, we began the new initiative with Calabash African Kitchen. Would you like your business to be next? Let us know, as we continue to discover all that our ward has to offer. |
On Sept. 24, Rainbow Family Park unveiled their new exercise equipment. In collaboration with Rainbow Family Park Neighborhood Association, we were able to give the park a much needed update to the available equipment. My office is always looking to improve parks in the ward. If you have suggestions on additions or changes to your neighborhood park, we would love to hear from you. |

A big thank you to Las Vegas Firefighters Local 1285 for collaborating with my team to deliver requested school supplies to the children at Wasden Elementary. The school received a variety of playground equipment, classroom implements, and board games for the children to enjoy.

At Rose Warren Elementary, even on a rainy monsoon summer day, the children and staff were thrilled to have us drop off their requested school supplies. The big hit of these events has been our public safety officials allowing the kids to tour their vehicles, including this fire truck. While we love treating the kids to new items, we also use the opportunity to teach children about career paths they can take in serving and protecting the community.
