Clark County’s 1 October Memorial Committee is reaching a critical phase in the creation of a lasting memorial that remembers the victims of the 1 October, 2017, shooting, honors the survivors and first responders, and recognizes the resilience of our community. If you have an idea for what a memorial should look like, now is the time to share it! You (and anyone you know who may be interested) are invited to submit drawings, artwork, short videos, songs, poems or other digital forms of design along with a letter of intent that describes the idea or feelings the item is meant to convey. Submissions are being accepted online through the Call for Creative Expressions portal available on this app -- https://apps.vdomobile.com/m/1octobermemorial/. More details about this effort (and other pathways for participation) may be found on the 1 October Memorial Committee’s website at https://ClarkCountyNV.gov/1OctoberMemorial. Submissions for creative expressions are being accepted through Sept. 30. Those with questions may email 1OctoberMemorial@ClarkCountyNV.gov or call 702-455-8200. We encourage you to tell friends and share information about this effort on social media. Participation is welcome from anyone who was affected by the tragedy in any way, including those who live outside our area. The hashtag is #1OctoberMemorial. The design teams that compete to build the memorial as part of the next phase of this process will be expected to review all Creative Expressions submissions received from the public. They may draw upon your idea as they develop their proposals to present to our community next year. They also may ask artists to join their design teams. Clark County looks forward to hearing from you! To follow the progress of this effort, please visit the 1 October Memorial Committee’s website and subscribe to receive free email updates. Additionally, you can follow the work of the committee at www.Facebook.com/1OctoberMemorial as it creates a “Memorial to Remember.”
