Secret of Siam Thai Cuisine Restaurant Update & Survey
The Southern Nevada Health District continues to work with its partners to investigate a potential association between THC toxicity and the consumption of food or drink from Secret of Siam Thai Cuisine restaurant, located at 5705 Centennial Center Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89149.
As of Feb. 24, several dozen patrons have reported they consumed items from the restaurant between Jan. 28, 2022, and Feb. 14, 2022, and experienced symptoms. Initial signs and symptoms included hallucinations, blurry vision, increased heart rate, disorientation or confusion, dizziness, loss of consciousness, dry mouth, and numbness or tingling in extremities. Some patrons who reported they did not intentionally consume or use marijuana in the previous 30 days tested positive for THC on a laboratory toxicological screen. All patrons have recovered. Additional reports of similar symptoms in additional patrons are under investigation.
The restaurant is closed while the investigation continues and food testing is being conducted to identify the source of contamination. The Health District has created a self-reporting survey on its website to identify additional patrons and gather information about which food or drink items could be possible sources. The Health District is encouraging all patrons who dined at the restaurant from Jan. 24 through Feb. 14, 2022 – whether they experienced symptoms or not – to complete the survey. The survey is available at www.snhd.info/siamsurvey.
People may also contact the Health District at 702-759-1300 if they have any questions or need assistance with the survey.
The Smith Center Marks Major Milestone
Southern Nevada’s Heart of the Arts Will Usher in its Tenth Year with a Month-long Lineup of World-class Performances to Celebrate a Decade of Achievement and Community Impact
A vision nearly 20 years in the making, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts reaches a significant milestone in March 2022 with the celebration of its 10-year anniversary. After just a decade, The Smith Center has firmly ensconced itself as Southern Nevada’s Heart of the Arts, a true cultural hub where community members from all walks of life can gather to enjoy high-caliber performances. As a nonprofit, The Smith Center has further provided a variety of education and outreach initiatives for more than 1 million students and teachers in Southern Nevada, most at no cost to schools.
“Over the past 10 years, our community has embraced The Smith Center as a cultural fixture of our city, and together we completely transformed access to the performing arts in Southern Nevada,” said Myron Martin, Smith Center president and CEO. “Our Smith Center family looks forward to celebrating 10 years of bringing the world’s greatest performers to community members’ backyard.”
Since opening The Smith Center in March 2012, the center’s leadership team has accomplished many of its ambitious goals and beyond. This includes bringing top Broadway productions to Las Vegas nearly every month with the center’s Broadway Las Vegas® Series, which has maintained over 10,000 season ticket holders every year. The Smith Center also successfully produced its own original musical “Idaho! The Comedy Musical,” and launched the national tours of hit productions such as “Kinky Boots” and “An Officer and a Gentleman.”
As part of its ongoing commitment to the Southern Nevada community, The Smith Center has considered arts education part of its DNA since day one. The Smith Center’s Education and Outreach team has provided special programs and initiatives throughout each year, including student matinees at The Smith Center, performances in schools, professional development for teachers and support for school musicals through Disney Musicals in Schools.
To celebrate all of these accomplishments as Southern Nevada’s Heart of the Arts, The Smith Center will ring in its tenth year in a way all Southern Nevadans can enjoy — with world-class performances. The Smith Center will pack the month of March with thrilling programming that spans every genre, reflecting the center’s driving goal of presenting performances for all audiences, including music, theater, dance, guest speakers and more.
The Smith Center’s March performances include world-renowned speakers, such as internationally recognized astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson on March 8 and explorer and primatologist Dr. Mireya Mayor March 2 as the latest installment of the National Geographic Live speaker series. The month also features music icons such as Paul Anka on March 10. Audiences can further experience leading performers from across the globe, like acclaimed Mexican dance group Ballet Folklorico on March 23, as well as DRUM TAO, showcasing fiery and athletic Japanese taiko drumming March 25.
The Smith Center’s intimate venue Myron’s will also present leading performers up close, such as chart-topping vocalist Chris Mann March 26, best known for starring as the phantom in over 700 performances in the national tour for “The Phantom of the Opera.” Audiences can also enjoy top artists who live in Las Vegas, such as Clint Holmes March 9 and Frankie Moreno March 15.
“These uplifting performances also shine a spotlight on The Smith Center’s vibrant return upon reopening after its shutdown for over a year during the pandemic,” said Martin. “This demonstrates the resiliency of the performing arts and their importance in bringing joy to community members through experiences that enrich and inspire.”
Martin appreciates all the community support that has helped The Smith Center remain Southern Nevada’s Heart of the Arts, he added.
“The Smith Center family anticipates many more epic performances in the decades to come,” Martin said.

Next Marathon Construction Weekends on Nellis Boulevard Announced
The second in a series of marathon construction weekends on Nellis Boulevard begins next weekend at Bonanza Road. The intersection will be reconstructed in two weekends, one side at a time (east, then west) to minimize impacts to the public. Business and pedestrian access will be maintained. Drivers can expect traffic control and delays. Alternate routes are advised.
All work will take place around the clock from Friday at 8 p.m. to Monday at 6 a.m. North- and southbound Nellis will be reduced to one lane in each direction at the intersection. Bonanza east- and westbound traffic will not be permitted to cross Nellis.
-
March 11-13 – East side of Nellis CLOSED 24/7 at Bonanza Road.
-
March 18-20 – West side of Nellis CLOSED 24/7 at Bonanza Road.
The Nevada Department of Transportation is rehabilitating an aging 10-mile section of north- and southbound Nellis Boulevard (State Route 612) between Tropicana Avenue and Craig Road in Clark County. The project will remove and replace the existing pavement.
The project will enhance safety along the corridor by adding two push-button activated pedestrian mid-block crossings with overhead rapid flashing beacons at Newton Avenue and another just north of Cheyenne Avenue, new handicap-accessible ramps, sidewalks and driveways that will be installed and tied into Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) facilities.
In addition, the Sahara Avenue, Charleston Boulevard, and Bonanza Road intersections will undergo full-depth asphalt repaving with streetlight replacements and signage improvements.
These enhancements will rejuvenate a heavily traveled urban arterial with three school zones, creating a safer and more pedestrian-friendly corridor.

Charleston/Eastern Intersection Closed March 3-6 For Marathon Weekend
Sanitary Sewer Main To Be Relocated Through Intersection
Work on the Charleston-Maryland Storm Drain project will require a temporary three-day closure of the Charleston Boulevard/Eastern Avenue intersection starting at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 3, and continuing through 9 p.m. Sunday, March 6. During the work to relocate sewer main in Charleston,
- Northbound Eastern will be detoured to eastbound Charleston;
- Southbound Eastern will be detoured to westbound Charleston;
- Eastbound Charleston will be detoured to southbound Eastern, then eastbound Oakey Boulevard; and
- Westbound Charleston will be open for business access only from Fremont to Crestwood.
Established detours will direct motorists away from the intersection during the work. Sidewalks at the intersection will be closed. Please plan accordingly and allow extra time when travelling through the area. See intersection map here.
A similar future closure will be necessary to install storm drain concrete box in another part of the intersection.
The Charleston-Maryland Storm Drain Project roadwork began last October and is expected to be complete by January 2024. The scope of the project includes storm drain installation on Fremont from Atlantic Avenue and proceeding west up Charleston Boulevard from Fremont to Maryland Parkway. Additional work will be performed in Maryland Parkway from Charleston to Stewart Avenue and in 13th Street from Charleston to Lewis Avenue. The project affects sections of several streets in Ward 3 and Ward 5 (see map). Alternate east/west routes during the construction include Sahara Avenue and Stewart.
This $51.5 million project will install more than 10,000 feet of new, reinforced-concrete box, varying in size from 6 feet by 5 feet to 24 feet by 6 feet, within Charleston Boulevard from Fremont Street to Maryland Parkway. Additional storm drain, water supply and sewer improvements will be made through the corridor, as well as on adjacent side streets, including Fremont Street, Maryland Parkway and 13th Street.
The project continues to restrict traffic along Charleston from Fremont to Maryland Parkway, with additional impacts to Eastern, Fremont, Maryland Parkway, 13th Street and Stewart. Work hours will vary throughout the project. Once storm drain installations get under way at Charleston/Fremont, the lane restrictions will be in place 24 hours each day as the work progresses westward.
This project is part of the Clark County Regional Flood Control District’s master-planned facilities intended to alleviate the heavy flow of storm water that flowed down the street surface of Charleston Boulevard in the past.
Las Vegas Paving is the contractor and the city of Las Vegas Department of Public Works is managing the project. The project is funded by the Clark County Regional Flood Control District and the Las Vegas Valley Water District. Residents with concerns or questions should call 702-405-6822 or email CMSDinfo@lasvegaspaving.com.
UTILITIES UPDATE
Energy Assistance Program Available
Program Provides Funding to Pay or Catch Up on Past-due Bills
Feb. 5, the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services reminded Nevadans that the Energy Assistance Program is available to help residents afford their heating and cooling bills.
Additionally, the program can help households get caught up on their heating and cooling bills if they are behind on payments.
To be eligible for the program, a household must meet the minimum qualifications, including U.S. citizenship, Nevada residency, household income that does not exceed 150% of the federal poverty guidelines, and the household must be responsible for paying home energy costs.
Applications are available at dwss.nv.gov/Energy, at a Division of Welfare and Supportive Services office, or at any of the energy assistance intake sites across Nevada.
Spring Seasonal Watering Restrictions in Effect Through April 30
The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) reminds the community that mandatory spring watering restrictions, which limit landscape irrigation to up to three assigned days per week, are in effect now through April 30. To find your assigned watering days, visit snwa.com/.
The spring restrictions allow spray irrigation up to three assigned days per week. Drip irrigation can operate two to three times per week (landscape irrigation is prohibited on Sunday year-round). You can save water—and money on your monthly bills—by “ramping up” your irrigation schedule and only adding the second and third watering days as it gets warmer and as weather patterns permit.
Grass irrigation should operate no more than three to four minutes per watering cycle to achieve a total watering time of 12 minutes per watering day. A single watering cycle of 30 to 90 minutes is recommended for drip systems once or twice a week in spring.
Watering outside of your three assigned days or allowing water to spray or flow off your property could incur fees ranging from $40 to $80 for the first violation and up to $1,280 for repeated violations. Along with following the seasonal restrictions, periodically inspecting your landscape irrigation system for broken or misaligned sprinklers can help you avoid potentially costly water-waste fines.
Conserving water and reporting and preventing water-waste are critical as the water shortage declaration on the Colorado River limits the amount of water Southern Nevada can withdraw from Lake Mead—the source of 90 percent of our supply—by 7 billion gallons this year.
Another way you can help conserve the community’s most vital natural resource is by upgrading your thirsty grass with beautiful water-efficient plants, trees, shrubs and artificial turf through the SNWA Water Smart Landscapes Rebate Program (WSL). WSL offers a cash incentive of up to $3 for each square foot of turf converted to drip-irrigated landscaping. (Some restrictions apply.) Find out more and enroll today at snwa.com.
Customers also are reminded to change the clocks on their irrigation timers and adjust their irrigation start times when Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 13.
The SNWA is a not-for-profit regional entity that manages water conservation, water quality and water resource issues for Southern Nevada. Its members include: The Big Bend Water District (Laughlin); the cities of Boulder City, Henderson, Las Vegas and North Las Vegas; the Clark County Water Reclamation District; and the Las Vegas Valley Water District.
