Proposed Downtown Civic Center Building and Plaza
We want your opinion!
June 16, the City Council heard three architectural proposals for the design of a Downtown Civic Center Building and Plaza that would be located across Clark Avenue from City Hall.
There will be three phases to the new development. Phase 1 will prepare the site, to include demolition of the former bail bond building, vacating the alleyway, and rerouting underground and above-ground utilities. Phase 2 will include construction of one building along Main Street, to house city of Las Vegas offices, and construction of the Civic Plaza. Phase 3 would include possible construction of a second building along Bonneville Avenue. Phase 3 may be accelerated as part of Phase 2, depending on funding availability.
View the proposals here and then tell us which one you would like to see come to life!

Officer Jason Swanger
1979 - 2021

He was born Oct. 26, 1979, in Providence, Rhode Island, to Robin and Linn Swanger. Jason graduated from East Providence High School in 1998. A year later he joined the United States Navy, where he served his country as a culinary specialist for the next 11 years. After retiring from the Navy, he joined the Army Nevada National Guard to continue serving his country. He also joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2013. Jason was a man among men. He stood for his country, his family, his faith, nobility, and honor. He was a man of his word and a man of his convictions. Jason was larger than life. His laugh and his smile were contagious. He had the ability to turn a bad day into a great day with one of his one-liners. Whether it was the area he patrolled or his own neighborhood, the people around him felt protected and safe. Jay will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
