Councilwoman Victoria Seaman's Updates
 I want to thank Ivory Coast Vice-Consul A.T. King Nat Jr. for the chance to discuss economic opportunities between the city of Las Vegas and his country.
I was joined by the Mikalonis family at the city of Las Vegas. They came from all over the country to honor him with a proclamation signed by Mayor Carolyn Goodman, making June 11 "Shay Day." What a great privilege to honor this hero.

I want to congratulate all the children who took part in Las Vegas Kids Triathlon. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to announce all the winners receiving their medals. My thanks to all the businesses and volunteers who supported this event and I look forward to supporting the next one.
We had two special individuals who were recognized at the last City Council meeting. First, our city of Las Vegas employee Gregory Gray was named Employee of the Month. Thank you, Gregory, for the great job you do for our city. Second, we recognized former City Councilman Gary Reese for his service to the city as the Ward 3 Councilman as he celebrated his 80th birthday. Happy Birthday, Gary!
Proud to support Project REAL, whose goal is to educate our young people not only on the laws they are expected to follow but on the laws designed to protect them, as well. To learn more about this great project, visit https://projectrealnv.org/.

I want to thank the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and their speaker, retired Department of Public Safety Chief Michele Freeman, for helping educate our community on the warning signs and prevention methods related to suicide and giving them the tools to help someone in crisis. If you or somebody you know needs help, please call the hotline at 1-800-273-8255.
I want to congratulate Katie Grimes, Bella Sims, Erica Sullivan and Bowe Becker of the Sandpipers of Nevada in their selection to swim on team USA in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Thank you for your dedication and passion to the sport of swimming. I wish you the best of luck in Tokyo!
It was an honor to be a part of the first annual Angels Wings on the Green Golf Tournament at the beautiful Canyon Gate Country Club. Thank you to Angels of Las Vegas, the many volunteers, the generous contributions to our community and for your dedication and hard work assisting all those affected by life-threatening illnesses and homelessness. Keep up the great work!
One of my special assistants had the opportunity to do a ride-along with city of Las Vegas Animal Control Officer Ayala. She was able to experience the wonderful job these officers do, like rescuing a cat stuck in a drainpipe and taking a lost dog off the streets to safety, especially during the hot summer. They do an incredible job with our animals!
Councilwoman Seaman recognizes Aaron Polonsky, our fabulous intern, for his hard work and dedication to the citizens of Ward 2 and extends her appreciation for his commitment to improving life in the Las Vegas community. Ward 2 wishes Aaron a very happy 21st birthday on July 4!

Proposed Downtown Civic Center Building and Plaza
We want your opinion!
June 16, the City Council heard three architectural proposals for the design of a Downtown Civic Center Building and Plaza that would be located across Clark Avenue from City Hall.
There will be three phases to the new development. Phase 1 will prepare the site, to include demolition of the former bail bond building, vacating the alleyway, and rerouting underground and above-ground utilities. Phase 2 will include construction of one building along Main Street, to house city of Las Vegas offices, and construction of the Civic Plaza. Phase 3 would include possible construction of a second building along Bonneville Avenue. Phase 3 may be accelerated as part of Phase 2, depending on funding availability.
View the proposals here and then tell us which one you would like to see come to life!
What Should Be the Top Priorities for American Rescue Plan Funds?
The city of Las Vegas has received $130 million in funding that must be spent by Dec. 31, 2024. Funding should support causes, issues and groups who have been most impacted by the pandemic. Please share your feedback about what you think the top priorities should be for federal funding the city of Las Vegas has received from the American Rescue Plan. To share your ideas or general comments, take our survey.
The key areas being considered are:
-
Nonprofit support - This could include projects like retraining of displaced workers, eviction assistance, housing for the homeless, expanded education opportunities, broadband internet access and mental health assistance.
-
Affordable housing - This could include acquiring new land or existing apartments and housing to offer more affordable housing.
THE SUMMERLIN COUNCIL ANNOUNCES AMERICA’S BIRTHDAY PARTY PARADE
Reimagined Energetic Mobile Show Set for July 3 to Include 25 Themed Entries
Las Vegas is invited to celebrate our nation’s 245th birthday at America’s Birthday Party Parade: A Summerlin Community Celebration on Saturday, July 3, at 9 a.m. As we emerge from the pandemic, this year’s event has been reimagined as a 30-minute energetic mobile show incorporating dynamic parade floats, giant inflatable balloons and choreographed performances. According to parade organizers, while this event will be smaller in scale, the pageantry and patriotic spirit of previous parades will be on full display.
America’s Birthday Party Parade features 25 themed entries including:
- Professionally decorated parade floats with larger-than-life displays of birthday cakes, party hats, an undersea birthday jubilee and other dazzling patriotic celebrations;
-
Giant inflatable balloons including a 25-foot birthday cake, 30-foot American flag and 25-foot Uncle Sam hat;
- Exciting performances by the Drumbots, Desert Angels gospel choir, West Las Vegas Arts Center performance ensemble, Danza del Carrizo native American dancers, Swing It Sisters, Guan Strong lion dancers, stilt walkers and a live DJ spinning beats through the streets;
- Appearances by beloved cartoon characters, community mascots, princesses, superheroes and more.
- The parade route will be lined end-to-end with American flags.
The parade is organized by The Summerlin Council, the nonprofit arm of the Summerlin Community Association dedicated to the social, educational and recreational enrichment of residents. The parade is free and open to the public. Spectators are asked to follow the latest CDC COVID-19 guidance for mask wearing, social distancing and hand washing. Everyone is encouraged to arrive early, wear sunscreen and bring water and hand sanitizer. Due to the smaller scale of this year’s event, there will not be grandstands or announcers’ booths along the route.
Title sponsor is The Howard Hughes Corporation/Summerlin. Major sponsors include Centralized Security Services, Downtown Summerlin, Summerlin Hospital Medical Center, Tri Pointe Homes, BrightView Landscape, Par 3, LandCare, and LKG Law Firm.
WHERE: The parade begins at the corner of Hillpointe Road and Hills Center Drive, travels south on Hills Center to Village Center Circle, then turns west on Trails Center Drive, ending at the Trails Park.
