New Welcome Signs
in Las Vegas' Historic Westside
The city of Las Vegas commissioned local West Las Vegas artist Harold Bradford & Associates to design two signs in 2018 as part of Project Neon. The signs have been installed on the off-ramps of U.S 95 at the Martin L. King Boulevard exit, both northbound and southbound. There is an adjacent pedestrian walkway at both locations that will allow people to take photos with the signs.
Video comments from Councilman Crear and Harold Bradford as well as footage of the new signs is available here.

SilverSummit Healthplan Donates Van
On Jan. 20, Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman and Councilman Cedric Crear welcomed SilverSummit Healthplan executives to City Hall to dedicate a new van for homeless patients. The city of Las Vegas Recuperative Care Center, located at 1581 Main St. in the Corridor of Hope, recently received a $50,000 grant from SilverSummit through the Mayor's Fund for Las Vegas Life to underwrite the purchase of a special handicapped-accessible van to transport homeless patients to medical and social appointments. The center provides a safe place to discharge homeless patients when they no longer require hospitalization, but are still in need of care to heal from illness or injury.
We are grateful to Eric Schmacker, president and CEO of SilverSummit Healthplan, for the generous donation to help advance the city's goals to improve quality of life in our valley for everyone.
Southern Nevada Health District Begins Offering Appointments for Second Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine
The Southern Nevada Health District will begin contacting people who are eligible to receive their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and were vaccinated at a Health District clinic to begin scheduling appointments. Second dose allocations are received based on the amount of first doses administered, and appointments will only be available for residents who received their vaccinations from a Health District clinic. For more information, visit here.
Las Vegas Convention Center to be COVID-19 Second Dose Clinic Site
The Las Vegas Convention Center will be the site of the Southern Nevada Health District’s COVID-19 second dose clinic, the agency and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) announced today. The appointment-only clinic will open Tuesday, Feb. 2, for people who received their first dose at a Health District clinic and are eligible to receive their second dose.
The Las Vegas Convention Center clinic will be open Tuesday through Saturday in the C-1 area of the facility’s Central Hall. Dedicated parking is available in the Silver Lot off Paradise Road and Convention Center Drive. People eligible to receive the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine at this site received their first dose at clinics held at Western High School, Cashman Center, or the Southern Nevada Health District’s main public health center.
The Health District has started notifying people who are eligible to receive their second dose at the clinic next week using the contact information provided at the time they made their first appointment. People who were vaccinated at a Health District site and who do not receive a notification can call 702-759-0850 to make their second dose appointment. If someone who received their first dose from another non-Health District clinic schedules an appointment, they will not be vaccinated and advised to contact their original provider to receive their second dose.
The Health District’s new integrated appointment and registration system allows people to schedule their second dose when they are receiving their first vaccination.
It is recommended that the second dose of vaccine should be administered as close to the 21- and 28-day intervals as possible. However, based on current guidance, second doses of both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines can be administered up to six weeks after the first dose. The vaccines are not interchangeable.
Visit Immunize Nevada to receive information about the COVID-19 vaccine in Nevada counties. Telephones are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.

U.S. Highway 95 Pavement Repairs, Overnight Lane Restrictions Jan. 31 in Las Vegas |
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) will be undertaking a $185,000, half-mile-long repair of southbound U.S. Highway 95 between Vegas Drive and Washington Avenue, heading into the “Rainbow curve” in Las Vegas. Las Vegas Paving Corporation is the general contractor. The project calls for milling and repaving the deteriorating asphalt roadway. Crews will be working from 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, until 6 a.m., Monday, Feb. 1, resulting in temporary lane reductions. Additionally, the southbound U.S. Highway 95 off-ramps to Rainbow Boulevard and Summerlin Parkway will be closed during the same time frame, as will the eastbound Lake Mead Boulevard on-ramp to southbound U.S. 95.
515 Viaduct Rehabilitation Project Virtual Public Meeting Feb. 2-16
NDOT invites public participation in an upcoming virtual information meeting for the rehabilitation of the 50-year-old Interstate 515 (U.S. Highway 95) viaduct in downtown Las Vegas. (A viaduct is a long bridge-like structure carrying a roadway. It is not to be confused with an aqueduct, which is an elevated structure used to convey water).
The $40 million project will refurbish the viaduct between Interstate 15 and Eastern Avenue, making deck repairs including adding a new pavement overlay, plus ramp hinge replacements and seismic retrofits. Other project upgrades call for re-striping Interstate 515 to provide an additional southbound travel lane from Interstate 15 to Eastern Avenue, as well as the replacement of bridges over Eastern Avenue and Desert Inn Road. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the spring, with anticipated completion by mid-2022.
The online project meeting, found at www.i515Project.com, will be active and live 24/7 for 14 days, Feb. 2-16. (The virtual public meeting site is ADA-compliant.) The site will explain why the project is needed as well as project goals and benefits. The public is encouraged to search the virtual public meeting room, learn more about the project, download materials, watch a project presentation, and submit their comments and questions to the project team.
