Commissioner Lawrence Weekly and Councilman Cedric Crear Break Ground For Historic Westside Legacy Park
Park Will Be A Place To Experience The History Of The Historic Westside
Construction on Historic Westside Legacy Park has begun off Mount Mariah Drive near Martin L. King Boulevard. Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly and Las Vegas City Councilman Cedric Crear officially kicked off construction at an event this weekend at 1600 Mount Mariah Drive. Video of the event is available here.
“I am so excited to see construction begin on this park that will become a keystone in Ward 5 and the Las Vegas community,” Councilman Crear said. “A beautiful park to celebrate the history of the Historic Westside is going to be truly special.”
The park is a partnership between the city of Las Vegas and Clark County and is expected to be completed in winter 2021.
“This park will be a tribute to the many trailblazers who gave people like me and Councilman Crear the opportunity to be where we are today,” Commissioner Weekly said. “They taught us early on that for those to whom much is given, much is required. I’m so grateful we are able to find a way to honor them and thank them.”
The park will incorporate unique elements, such as a timeline of the Historic Westside and an interpretive walking trail. It also will include a public artwork and the stories of the Westside told in unique ways. In addition, the park will feature trees, landscaping and a playground, all in the heart of the Enterprise Park development.
The cost of the park is $3.2 million and CORE Construction is the contractor. LGA Architecture has designed the park and has embraced the mid-century modern style. Renderings of the park are available here.
