Holiday greetings to the businesses and residents of Ward 5!

I want to express the importance of wearing a mask while in public as recommended by the CDC. Masks offer a layer of protection for yourself and people around you. Also, please follow the six-foot social distancing recommendation. COVID-19 cases have been increasing during this holiday and flu season. I am encouraging you to "mask-up" for Nevada to help reduce the number of positive coronavirus cases in our great city.

Free Two-Hour On-Street Metered Parking In Downtown Las Vegas Friday-Sunday Until Jan. 4

Enter The Code ‘5555’ When Paying At The Meter Or Through Flowbird

The city of Las Vegas will offer free two-hour, on-street, metered parking in downtown Las Vegas on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until Jan. 4, to encourage residents and visitors to support local businesses this holiday season. Anyone can take advantage of this offer once per day on designated days by using the code “5555” when paying at the meter or through the Flowbird app.

While things look different this holiday season, free parking will allow customers to support local stores and restaurants, whether it’s dining in, shopping in-store or picking up orders curbside. Remember to wear masks and social distance at all times.

Statewide Pause

The "Statewide Pause" started Nov. 24, at 12:01 a.m. The mitigation measures will last for  three weeks (until Dec. 15), and the governor and his administration will continue to monitor the COVID-19 trends in the state during this time frame, making adjustments as needed.

Under the new measures, restaurants, bars, gaming operations, gyms, fitness facilities and other businesses and activities will be limited to 25 percent of applicable fire code capacity, down from 50 percent.  Retail stores – including grocery stores – will remain at 50 percent of capacity, with strict social distancing and additional monitoring requirements.

Additionally, public gatherings will be limited to no more than 50 people or 25 percent capacity, whichever is less. No large events will be approved during this time frame.

Private gatherings will be limited to no more than 10 people from no more than two separate households, and the state’s face covering requirement will be extended to private gatherings.

Nevadans must wear face coverings at all times, whether indoors or outdoors, when around individuals from outside their households.

RTC

Maryland

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) will soon be constructing a bus rapid-transit system that will move people more efficiently along Maryland Parkway between the Medical District, downtown Las Vegas, Sunrise Hospital, The Boulevard Mall, UNLV, and McCarran International Airport.

Clark County and the city of Las Vegas are now creating a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Plan to complement this corridor, with the goal of creating walkable, vibrant environments that are hubs of activity for residents, employees, and visitors. This project will:

  • lead to zoning code changes to allow or permit new uses and increased density; and
  • identify new public investments in community amenities, multimodal connectivity, and physical infrastructure.

The project team is seeking feedback from people who live, work, or play near the Maryland Parkway corridor. Help them understand what the community values and what improvements are needed by taking short surveys about any or all seven different focus areas along this corridor that you may be interested in. To complete a survey, click the button.
