
“60 Minutes” correspondent and CBS News Senior Political Analyst John Dickerson will discuss his New York Times best-seller “The Hardest Job in the World: The American Presidency” with Las Vegas-Review Journal’s Politics & Government Editor Steve Sebelius Saturday, Oct. 24, during the 2020 Las Vegas Book Festival’s Virtual Book Week. The discussion will be streamed on the book festival’s YouTube channel and Facebook page; recordings will be available on both platforms after the event.
The 2020 Las Vegas Book Festival’s Virtual Book Week will feature programming for all ages from Oct. 19 to 24. Readings, panel discussions and more will be shared on the festival’s YouTube channel and Facebook page throughout the week. Panel discussions will take place daily at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. while children’s author readings and family-friendly activities will take place at noon and 3 p.m. respectively. There will also be a daily poetry session at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 24, programming will run continuously from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. to follow the traditional book festival schedule.
Two panels will examine the issue of homelessness in Las Vegas at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct.22, and Saturday, Oct. 24. The Thursday session will feature representatives from the city of Las Vegas, HELP of Southern Nevada and Shine A Light Foundation. On Saturday, Matthew O’Brien, author of “Dark Days, Bright Nights: Surviving the Las Vegas Storm Drains,” will discuss life in the underground flood channels as well as getting out into recovery.

- “Nissa Tzun: Narrative as Public Memory and Protest” – Author Nissa Tzun will discuss the collaboratively written book “Stolen Lives” about the victims of police violence on Monday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m.
- “Hunter S. Thompson” – A dive into the works and legacy of Hunter S. Thompson featuring his son, Juan F. Thompson, author of “Stories I Tell Myself: Growing Up with Hunter S. Thompson" and authors Timothy Denevi, ("Freak Kingdom") and Margaret Harrell ("The Hells Angels Letters.”)
- “The Restaurant” - A conversation with local restauranteurs moderated by veteran food writer, the Review-Journal’s Al Mancini, about the changes brought on by the pandemic. Topics include customer confidence, a rise in takeout and silver linings found in today’s food world.
