July 8, 2020
Dear Friend,
Thursday, July 9, at 3 p.m., the Clark County School District Board will meet to approve the school district's reopening plan for the 2020-2021 school year (Agenda Item 5.07). This plan involves children attending school two days a week and spending the other three days a week learning online. While this is not an issue controlled by the City Council, we understand the challenges you are going through and we are looking at how we can support you through daycare programs should this pass.

Summerlin Parkway Pedestrian Bridge Dedication Set For 9 A.M. July 24
The Public Is Invited To Join Councilwoman Victoria Seaman & The Family Of Alex Lawrence
The public is invited to join Ward 2 Councilwoman Victoria Seaman and the family of Alexander Ross Lawrence at 9 a.m. Friday, July 24, to dedicate the new pedestrian bridge over Summerlin Parkway to the memory of Alexander Lawrence. The dedication will take place at a plaque placed on the north side of Summerlin Parkway at the entrance to the pedestrian bridge, accessed within the Kellogg Zaher Sports Complex at 7901 W. Washington Ave. Lawrence was killed in a rollover accident on Summerlin Parkway Oct. 24, 2011, while avoiding a pedestrian crossing the highway. Lawrence was returning to continue his second year of college in California that Sunday night after spending the weekend with family and friends. Just 19 years old, he had graduated from Faith Lutheran High School in 2010.
All of the neighborhoods to the south now have an easy connection into Kellogg Zaher Sports Complex as well as a convenient connection to the Bonanza Trail that runs along the north side of Summerlin Parkway. This pedestrian bridge, which also accommodates bicycles and scooters, connects a large segment of the community to a walkable park. It also allows neighborhoods to the north of Washington a connection to the south (through the park) to access schools, churches and more.
“It is my privilege to join with the community to dedicate this new pedestrian bridge to the memory of Alexander Lawrence,” said Councilwoman Seaman. “It is our joint hope to avoid tragedies by increasing safe transportation options throughout our city.”
This precast concrete pedestrian bridge with lighting is 20 feet wide and 260 feet long, crossing Summerlin Parkway at Cimarron Road. Designed by the Poggemeyer Design Group and built by Meadow Valley Contractors, the pedestrian bridge was begun in April 2019. Construction was substantially complete in April 2020, including trail and landscaping improvements. The $8.5 million total cost for this project was provided by Federal Congestion Mitigation Air Quality and Federal Transportation Alternatives Program funds, the city of Las Vegas and the Regional Transportation Commission.
