Message from Councilwoman Díaz

Hello Residents,

I hope this newsletter message finds you safe and healthy. As always, my office remains committed to working for you every day.

I would like acknowledge our small businesses for their resiliency and willingness to adapt to the changing conditions that this pandemic has caused. Many small businesses have found innovative ways to serve their patrons, and for that I am grateful. We all need to feel a bit of normalcy in our lives. The city of Las Vegas introduced two new programs to assist the local business community as it reopens under operating regulations of Phase 1. I encourage our business owners to take a close look at these opportunities to determine if they can be of any benefit to you.

If you have any recommendations on future topics or questions that you would like us to find the answers to, please email us or message us through social media at @oliviadiazlv.  Below you’ll also find updated information about the current status of COVID-19 in the Las Vegas community.

I shall continue to stand with you during these challenging times and I urge you to reach out to me or the Ward 3 office for assistance. Our office line is 702.229.4623, my direct phone number is 702.764.1093, or you can also email us at Ward3@lasvegasnevada.gov.

Yours in service,

Olivia Díaz

New Grant Offers Up To $4,000 To Qualifying Businesses
Commercial Centers Will Be Included In The Safe Sidewalks Program

The city of Las Vegas is offering two new programs to assist the local business community as it reopens under operating regulations of Phase 1*. The first, a grant program, will provide direct funds to small businesses impacted by the guidance and restrictions from the Governor’s orders for business operations and in accordance with the Southern Nevada Health District’s guidance.    In addition, the city will expand the safe sidewalk program announced last week to include commercial centers and commercially zoned property

Some additional restrictions apply. For more detailed information on both programs visit www.lasvegasnevada.gov/ReopeningResources, and for the reopening grant application visit www.lasvegasnevada.gov/ReopeningGrant. For additional questions, please contact the city’s call center at 702-229-CARE

Helping our Community

In appreciation to the various organizations in Ward 3 serving our community, I was able to deliver 10 pallets of water to ensure we all stay hydrated during this hotter weather.

Recipients include Share Village, City Impact, El Shaddai, Casa de Luz, Arriba Las Vegas and St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Kudos to CREDO Las Vegas (Community Revitalization Economic Diversity of Las Vegas) for their generous food donation for the residents of Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority's Robert Gordon Plaza. We are STRONGER TOGETHER! Watch the full video clip.

Thankful Thursdays New

As a small token of our appreciation, we are delivering lunch meals to FRONT-LINE workers and volunteers on Thursdays. Ward 3 small business owner Antonio Muñoz from “911 Tacos” helped us prepare and deliver delicious breakfast burritos for the volunteers of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church food pantry.  In addition, the church also received a donation of much needed water.  If you would like to nominate a deserving Ward 3 front-line entity, please email ward3@lasvegasnevada.gov.

Las Vegas BLVD Construction

The largest road project in the history of the city of Las Vegas kicked off April 27. The project will beautify Las Vegas Boulevard from Stewart to Sahara and replace aging infrastructure. The roadway project will total three miles and will take approximately three years to complete.

Construction Update

Crews continue to work on median island removals, so these areas can be used for traffic during construction. Temporary lighting is being installed throughout the corridor.

Palm trees are being removed, planted in a tree farm, and will be replanted towards the end of the project.

Traffic Impacts Update

The table below summarizes current and upcoming impacts to traffic.

While Las Vegas Boulevard remains open, we encourage the use of Main Street and Commerce Street for northbound/southbound travel.

Business and pedestrian access will be maintained for the duration of construction.

Have You Wondered What Will Happen to the Beautiful Palm Trees on Las Vegas Boulevard?

I am happy to report that the trees are being saved and moved to a temporary tree farm. Trees are being excavated and transported to our tree farm site and promptly replanted. An irrigation system has been set up for the trees to stay healthy until the project is ready for them to be replanted on Las Vegas Boulevard later.
