Dear neighbors,

The state of Nevada began Phase I of the reopening efforts May 9. The Governor’s report mandates that businesses which are allowed to open must adopt protective measures to minimize the risk of the spread of the virus. Restrictions are put into place to protect workers and consumers. To view the full report, visit the state website below.

The downtown area of Las Vegas is the heartbeat of our city, and more than 20 million people visit each year. I had the opportunity to host a conference call with Ward 3 Councilwoman Olivia Diaz, Ward 1 Councilman Brian Knudsen, various city of Las Vegas department heads and downtown stakeholders May 13. Although many businesses and casino/hotels remain closed, this meeting was conducted to connect with business owners and representatives to provide information, and to learn what their needs are regarding the safety of people visiting downtown when it reopens. A visibly clean downtown, increased police presence, and an increased sanitation cleaning schedule are our top priorities. We are working on these items and more to continue making downtown Las Vegas a safe and enjoyable environment for visitors as it reopens.

The coronavirus is still active and many new cases around the world are reported daily. As your council representative, I will continue to provide updates, as the situation is constantly changing.

Yours in service,

Nevada Care Connection

Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division Receives Federal Funds to Support Older Adults and People with Disabilities

The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) recently received a federal grant of $450,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support Nevada Care Connection Resource Centers as part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nevada Care Connection helps facilitate access to long-term services and support for older adults, individuals with disabilities, caregivers, veterans, and families, regardless of income. These services help Nevadans make informed decisions and access public and private services and programs. To help Nevadans who have multiple needs during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond, Nevada Care Connection has increased efforts to provide care coordination within the vast network of community partners, community members and agencies with the same mission statewide.

Resource and service navigators offer person-centered counseling to help individuals identify needs, explore their options, and develop a path to meet their long-term goals. Counselors help individuals navigate systems by providing services, such as application assistance, pre-determining eligibility for public and private programs, and connecting individuals to services and resources.
