Message from Councilwoman Díaz
First and foremost, a "HUGE" thank you to everyone who has stepped-up to help our community as we get through these difficult times. I want to acknowledge the tireless and dedicated commitment of all healthcare professionals— doctors, nurses, Southern Nevada Health District staff and all first responders. I’d also like to acknowledge the contributions of our regional leaders, city employees, teachers and of course our very own caring neighbors. The times we are living are truly unprecedented. Thankfully many people will soon be receiving much needed aid and relief from the Federal government through rebates from the IRS (see information below). As a daughter of elderly parents, a wife, mother and Las Vegas City Councilwoman, I'm doing my best to stay home not only for the health and wellbeing of my family, but my community. I know that after working from home for almost two weeks, this experience has definitely helped me remember how incredibly important our families, pets and friends are.
The city of Las Vegas has taken many measures and will continue to work hard to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents. I have received many phone calls from concerned Ward 3 small business owners and neighbors. On Wednesday, Councilman Knudsen, the Vegas Chamber and I held a webinar with small business owners to hear their concerns and answer questions. After the call, our city business licensing department took swift action to allow restaurants providing curbside meals to also sell sealed alcohol with a temporary 30-day "Alcohol Time Limited Permit". Our department of Economic and Urban Development also created the "Business Protection Program" to help business owners defray some of the costs that come with securing their buildings during the emergency shutdown. Please read more about these in the links below.
I understand that times are tough and will only get tougher in the next few weeks, but I remain confident that we are #VegasStrong and together we will help each other through this. I have heard from many neighbors who are stressed about not being able to make their rent payment and possible facing eviction from their home or apartment. The experts in this area of law is Legal Aid Of Southern Nevada and they have communicated to our office that they stand ready and able to answer tenants' questions regarding evictions at 702-386-1070, 702-671-3976 or email them at info@lacsn.org. Please continue to be our eyes and ears in the neighborhood. If you see something that immediately endangers your safety, please call 911. I've been in constant contact with our LVMPD captains and they ask for our help and support as parents in keeping our children home.
Additionally, below you'll find useful links, phone numbers and information from the city of Las Vegas and other community partners who are offering different services. One I'd like to highlight is the RTC Silver STAR service that's free for our seniors who are 60+ years old. There's a temporary route that will start to run on Tuesday, March 31, but will continue to operate on Fridays (April 3) around the Bonanza/Lamb area. This transportation line will provide a broad range of destinations and can accommodate up to two wheelchairs at a time. For more route details, click on the link below.
Together, we’ll get through this!
Yours in service,
Olivia Díaz

The RTC is expanding services on all 12 of its Silver Star routes with more pick-up locations, extended hours and temporarily adding one more route in the northeast valley. These looped routes provide senior citizens with access to grocery stores, banks and more. Earlier starting times help riders take advantage of stores offering extended hours for senior citizens and those with underlying medical issues. Each Silver Star vehicle can accommodate up to two wheelchairs at a time.
