Every Kid in a Park Program

Students from the West Las Vegas Arts Center, Doolittle Community Center, and Batteries Included program enjoyed a day at Zion National Park in Springdale, Utah, June 13. Students enjoyed lunch and a guided hike with park rangers through nature to explore, learn and play in a spectacular outdoor space. I am grateful I had the opportunity to host our youth on this day.

Western Elite Tour

Western Elite, Councilman Crear

Scott Seastrand

Western Elite, one of Nevada's largest recycling and waste removal management companies, specializes in the collection, storage, removal, recycling and proper disposal of unusable materials. Last year, Western Elite diverted from the landfill more than 165,000 tons of waste in Nevada. In an effort to keep up with the rapid growth of Las Vegas, Western Elite employs a fleet of truck drivers and a team of 270 service professionals to ensure the proper and efficient removal of waste for thousands of residential, commercial, construction and corporate projects.

I had the opportunity to take a tour of the organization's 560-acre landfill facility in Coyote Springs with Western Elite's Vice President Scott Seastrand, in an effort to further my education on the industry of recycling and available resources. From food waste to plastic, and construction materials such as steel, green waste and concrete, Western Elite sorts all the collected materials for recycling before reaching the landfill, minimizing waste and maximizing solutions.

Performing songs from their new album “Winterland,” a tribute to the season of coziness, family time and fun, the Okee Dokee Brothers make room for kids to dance, for parents to share stories and for everyone to gain respect for nature, each other and the world we live in.
