Ward 5 Councilman Crear Will Hold Groundbreaking Monday For New West Las Vegas Traffic Signal
Construction Will Restrict Lake Mead
Boulevard To Two Lanes Each Direction
Ward
5 Councilman Cedric Crear will preside over the groundbreaking for a new
traffic signal and related work at Lake Mead Boulevard at Comstock Drive/Stella
Lake Street at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17. A new traffic signal system, ADA-compliant
sidewalk ramps, pedestrian signals, signage and street marking upgrades will be
added at the intersection.
Work
hours will generally be restricted to 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday;
additional restrictions may be imposed to accommodate the walk-to-school
routes. The contractor will reduce Lake Mead Boulevard to two lanes in each
direction during the project. Between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday
through Friday, the contractor may reduce Lake Mead Boulevard to one lane in
each direction.
“I
have been anxious for work to begin on these new improvements,” said Councilman
Crear. “We believe this new traffic signal and other construction will improve
pedestrian safety and business access.”
The
construction is needed to improve pedestrian safety for those walking to
numerous nearby schools and utilizing the adjacent, high-volume RTC bus stops,
and assist with vehicular traffic management from businesses in the Las Vegas
Enterprise Park during peak hours as the vehicles and pedestrians access Lake
Mead Boulevard.
The
cost of improvements is budgeted at approximately $600,000, funded by the
Regional Transportation Commission Fuel Revenue Indexing taxes. Muller
Construction is the contractor. Completion of the project is expected in
February 2019.
