Calls for Artists at Wetlands Park
Paint en plein air at Wetlands Art Day, Saturday, March 21, 2026!
Plein air painting immerses painters in the rich sensations of the outdoor world, inspiring creation. Artists respond to what they see, hear, and feel while enjoying the calm, scenic vistas of the Nature Preserve. Artists must bring their supplies and sign in at the Wetlands Park Nature Center before selecting a scenic location within the Nature Preserve to begin painting. Check-in for plein air painting begins at 9 am at the Nature Center Information Kiosk.
Participating artists will be invited to submit artwork for our 4th Annual Plein Air Invitational, in partnership with Clark County Public Arts, on display May 2 - July 25, 2026, in the Spotlight on Nature Gallery. Gift certificates will be awarded for Best in Show and three Honorable Mentions, made possible by Clark County Public Arts.
Wetlands Art Day, presented in collaboration with Commissioner Jim Gibson, will also feature a variety of art-themed activities for kids and adults, including watercolor workshops taught by Lindsey Quick, poetry workshops taught by Clark County Poet Laureate Ashley "Ms. AyeVee" Vargas, a monoprint workshop for youth taught by Meghan Dragon, live music, free street corn from Buddies Golden Munchies, and more.
Art is play for everyone, so come and join the fun this March! For more information, visit our Art Day webpage.

WATERWORKS
A Solo Art Exhibition by Casey Alexander Southard
Exhibit: February 7 - April 25, 2026
For this show, WATERWORKS, award-winning local artist Casey Alexander Southard has included both older and newer pieces, all centered on water as either a subject or a setting. Some of her recent work moves beyond tighter, more traditional depictions to include mediums with stronger design elements, such as batik and woodburning. She cannot imagine a more fitting place for her show than this beautiful Nevada park.
Southard earned a B.A. in Arts and Science from the University of Delaware in 1979. She has worked as a freelance artist for the National Park Service, NYC Parks and Recreation, the Sierra Club, the American Littoral Society, Friends of the Earth, and other organizations and publications. Her work includes illustrations for field guidebooks and brochures, teaching aids, murals, and domestic animal reference materials, with a primary focus on flora and fauna. Prior to 1988, her work was published under her maiden name, Casey French Alexander.
