Upcoming Event: Wetlands Art Day 2025!
 Mark your calendars for Wetlands Art Day 2025 on Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 10am to 2pm! Wetlands Art Day is an opportunity to express your creativity and connect to nature through art. This event offers hands-on art activities for tots, youth, and adults featuring art, plein air painting, poetry, music, crafts, and food. Kids can enjoy activities like a giant coloring page, puzzle creation, origami, and more while adults can enjoy activities including but not limited to screen printing, a watercolor workshop, and poetry! This event is free, open to all ages, and requires no registration!
We are looking for artists! Come paint in the Wetlands Park during Wetlands Art Day! Paint en plein air at Clark County Wetlands Park during this free family event featuring art, music, poetry, crafts, and food. Bring your own supplies and check in as early as 9am to find a scenic spot in the Nature Preserve. Participating artists will be invited to submit artwork for the 3rd Annual Plein Air Invitational, on exhibit at the Spotlight on Nature Gallery May - July 2025. Best in Show and Honorable Mentions with be awarded.
Deadline to Apply Extended to February 8
 Clark County Wetlands Park invites local artists to submit a proposal for HAVEN, the 4th Annual Temporary Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit. Sculptures will be displayed at the Nature Preserve from March 15 - May 15, 2025. Ten artists will be awarded $1,000 each to design and install art along a designated site on a short loop trail near the Nature Center.

 Clark County Wetlands Park is seeking to fill an Artist Residency from Friday, March 15, through Friday, May 15, 2025. The Artist in Residence will conduct 40 hours of creative research at Wetlands Park and conduct a workshop. An original work of art inspired by the Residency is required. Please see the Call for more details.

Construction in the Park
In the coming months, construction and maintenance projects will be occurring in parts of the park affecting the Duck Creek Trailhead, the Pabco Trailhead, and the Las Vegas wash. Visitors may expect temporary closures, extended commute, and loud noises within the park near these areas.
The Water District has started a major construction project for improvement of the sewer lines that will impact the neighborhoods along the Wetlands Park, Duck Creek Trailhead (temporary closure is coming), and Wetlands Park Lane. This project will be active at least until May 2025.
Parts of the Las Vegas Wash will also be receiving upcoming maintenance on the Loop Trail between Mile Markers 1-6. Maintenance will be ongoing through February.

Project FeederWatch

At Wetlands Park, there are over 300 species of birds including migratory species. Help Project FeederWatch and Wetlands Park by volunteering to count the birds that visit our designated site. The birds we count at our site will be entered into a continental dataset that monitors bird distribution and abundance. Great for beginners and more experienced birders! We will provide all necessary materials including field guides, binoculars, and an official count sheet. Let's see which bird species visit our feeders this season!
Volunteers will meet in the Exhibit Gallery by the observation window.

Poet Laureate Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop

Clark County Poet Laureate Ms. AyeVee will present a series of ekphrastic poetry workshops, which is a literary interpretation of visual art. Writing experience not required. The workshops will be held in the Spotlight on Nature Gallery.
Ms.AyeVee is an award-winning Afro-latina Literary Artist from Las Vegas, NV. She is a woman of many hats with a passion for Poetry. Her work has been featured by the legendary All Def Poetry, Write About Now & Button Poetry. Ms. AyeVee has also been recognized by Las Vegas Book Festival, NPR & The US Congress for advancing the cause of literacy & extraordinary literary achievement. In 2022 Ms. AyeVee was selected as an official TEDx speaker for Las Vegas. She also runs a Las Vegas based poetry organization called, Beyond the Neon (@btnpoetry) that focuses on poetry exclusive events and community outreach. How Long Does it Last? Tabletop
Sunday, February 9 10 am to 12 pm
Join us in the Exhibit Gallery of the Nature Center for a tabletop with a Park Naturalist. Each month explores a different theme/topic through an educational activity and may also include a craft and/or our animal ambassadors.
For the month of February, visitors will learn how long common debris found within the Park lasts by playing a brief card game. The goal is to teach visitors Leave No Trace principles and encourage them to care for all natural, wild spaces.

Adult Watercolor Workshop

Discovery Walk: In the Wetlands: Where Nature Becomes Personal

Join a Park Naturalist on a journey to experiencing the Park in a way that is personal to you. Along the way, we’ll discuss the benefits of spending time in nature and use our senses to form personal connections to the landscape. By the end of the walk, you should feel restored by nature and have a better understanding of the natural world through newly formed personal connections.

Art Exhibit: Morrigan Devito Nature Journals
Explore nature through the eyes of scientific observation and artistic influence! The Nest will feature works from 2024 Artist in Residence Morrigan DeVito from February 1 to April 30. This is a great chance to learn about nature through journal observations while savoring the beauty of artistic drawings of native plants and animals. The Nest is located in the Information Kiosk at the Nature Center, open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 am to 3 pm.

About Morrigan DeVito
Morrigan DeVito is a naturalist, writer, and environmental educator who was born and raised in Henderson, NV. After getting her B.A in English and Communications from Southern Utah University, she moved back home and discovered the wonders of the Mojave Desert in the city, starting with a snowy egret at Clark County Wetlands Park. Currently, she works for the Red Rock Audubon Society and teaches people about birds, habitats, and conservation in Southern Nevada. In her free time she goes birding, reads, meditates, and explores nature through poetry and nature journaling.

Art Exhibit: Las Vegas Watercolor Society Signature Show
The Las Vegas Watercolor Society returns to Wetlands Park from February 8 to April 24 for their 2025 Signature Show. Visit the SONG in our Exhibit Gallery to see talented local artists’ work on display! Reception: Sunday, February 9, 1pm to 3pm. The SONG is located in the Exhibit Gallery at the Nature Center, open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 am to 3 pm.
