June 2021
Hello District G Residents,
Clark County welcomed almost 3 million passengers to the Las Vegas Valley through McCarran International Airport in April! These passengers are visiting just in time for Summer with plenty of activities for tourists and locals alike. Whether you are taking your family to the park to enjoy our newest Pickleball Complex, cheering on your favorite home team with friends or visiting the Clark County Museum, we are ready to help you make some new memories this Summer!
There are a number of helpful and interesting articles available in this month’s newsletter including Henderson Libraries Summer Reading Challenge, information on Family Pickleball Day, and upcoming events and programs available at Whitney Recreation Center. When you have a few minutes, I would highly recommend taking time to see what’s happening in our community and how we’re trying to make it better.

The annual time-honored tradition is back in a socially appropriate manner…the Henderson Libraries Virtual Summer Reading Challenge! This fun-for-all ages event will begin June 1 so be sure to visit https://hendersonlibraries.com/summer-reading to register yourself and your family members so they can be part of the excitement.
This year’s challenge is open to three age groups: Read-to-Me (ages 0 - 3); Kids & Teens (ages 4 - 17); and Adults (ages 18+). A separate program exists for each age group, which you can read more about online. With a theme of Tails and Tales, the challenge will run from June 1 – July 31. On the summer reading website link, you’ll also find book suggestions for children based on their ages and reading abilities. For more information and the full article, please click here.
In an effort to continually assist the community with helpful services, Henderson Libraries is pleased to present free online interview coaching. With virtual job interviews becoming more commonplace, it’s important to know the intricacies involved with this modern process. “Our team has done the work to meet job seekers where they are, to adapt services to align with current needs, and to support community members as they navigate job searches in a new, digital-only environment,” says Henderson Libraries Executive Director Marcie Smedley.
Developed by the libraries’ Learning for Career Achievement team, these one-on-one opportunities are available at a variety of times. Whether you are just starting out in the job market or are looking for a new position and have years of experience, these sessions can be tailored to your individual needs. By focusing on things like online interview etiquette tips or practicing interview questions and answers, the online coaches are here to assist.
“Job hunting can be a very stressful process, and interviewing is arguably the hardest part of that process,” says Adult Services Specialist Renee Hudacek. “One goal of this program is to help people feel prepared for a job interview by discussing types of questions commonly asked, talking over strategies to answer them, and offering tips to help combat nerves. The City of Boulder City's 73rd Annual Damboree is Saturday, July 3rd and Sunday, July 4th. Come out and celebrate! A schedule for the two day event is available by clicking here.
The current municipal pool in Boulder City is forty years old and has reached a critical point. In order to offer the programs that the community has come to appreciate, to keep up with current health code and to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, Mayor Kiernan McManus developed a Municipal Pool Ad hoc Committee to review alternatives regarding the repair or replacement of the municipal pool, and advise the City Council of possible alternatives.
The City employed SCA Design to assess the condition of the existing pool facility, and determine what improvements are needed to the existing facilities to meet current health and building codes. SCA concluded that "the building and many components are 40+ years old and past their intended life expectancy," but estimated that it would cost approximately $6,690,613.00 to bring the current facility up to code. SCA Design is also in the process of developing a conceptual design and cost estimate for a new pool facility that is expected to be completed April 2, 2021 and will be made available on the City’s website.
The Committee recommended that City Council approve what they determine is fiscally and structurally sound for the community. The City has a five-step savings plan for a new pool facility that is available on the City’s website that would not require any taxes to be raised. To continue reading, click here.

Southern Nevadans will have the unique opportunity to get COVID-19 vaccines in Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, at clinics scheduled for Thursday, June 10 through Sunday, June 13 and Thursday, June 17 through Sunday, June 20.
The clinic will offer the Pfizer and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine beginning at 2 p.m. each day. The last appointments will be available until 7:45 p.m. each day. Appointments for the vaccines at this site are encouraged and will be available beginning June 1, at www.snhd.info/covid-vaccine. Walk-ins will be accommodated based on clinic capacity each day. The COVID-19 vaccines will be administered in the Modelo Cantina Club overlooking the field. People receiving the vaccine will receive a “rally towel” and have the opportunity to take a photo in a designated area.
“We are excited to offer another unique opportunity for Southern Nevadans to get the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Dr. Fermin Leguen, District Health Officer for the Southern Nevada Health District. “Our partners at Allegiant Stadium have supported our mitigation activities throughout the response, and I want to thank them for hosting this clinic and their contributions to our efforts to stop the pandemic. We need to keep encouraging people to get vaccinated and the ongoing support of our partners is vital to our continued success.”
COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective and free, and now available to everyone 12 years of age and older. The Health District encourages everyone to get fully vaccinated. Children under the age of 18 must also have written consent from a parent or guardian at the time of services. The Health District’s policy is available on its website at www.snhd.info/covid-consent. For more information, please click here.
The Texas Station site offers both drive-thru COVID-19 vaccines and testing. Services will be available at this site through June 21. Additional Health District and partner COVID-19 vaccine clinic locations is available at www.snhd.info/covid-vaccine. Community COVID-19 vaccine clinic information can also be found online at www.NVCOVIDFighter.org. The site also features live chat support to make scheduling a COVID-19 vaccine appointment and getting information about the vaccine more accessible.
The Southern Nevada Health District today began its first round of school-based vaccine clinics at Desert Pines High School as well as Sawyer, Swainston and Tarkanian middle schools. The Health District encourages Southern Nevadans to bring their family members, including their children age 12 and over, to these clinics to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Registration for appointments is available at www.snhd.info/covid-vaccine. Walk-ins may be accepted depending on clinic capacity.
The Health District will provide the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine at four Clark County School District middle and high schools simultaneously for two days each over the next two weeks. Second doses will be offered at the same schools 21 days later. Although the Health District is focusing on providing first doses at these clinics, people seeking a second dose of Pfizer will be able to receive it.
