SANTA FE - A call came into the Regional Emergency Communications Center (RECC) at 9:18 a.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, reporting a structure fire at the Post Office on Highway 76 in Chimayo. RECC followed structure fire protocol and dispatched all recommended units. Ten units arrived on the scene.
District and volunteer fire fighters, administrators, wildland crew members, and emergency management staff fought the fire all day. At the time of this press release, 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, the fire was fully suppressed.
Extensive damage to the Post Office and the attached building is reported. The Post Master has been notified. No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire will be investigated and the State Fire Marshal will be called in.
