Renewable Energy for Santa Fe County

On June 25th the Board of County Commissioners approved Santa Fe County's participation in PNM’s Solar Direct program. Solar Direct provides solar energy to subscribing large commercial and government customers from a 50-megawatt solar facility to be built on Jicarilla Apache Nation land. Santa Fe County expects to receive 50% of its electricity demand from this renewable energy source by 2021. Learn how you too can go renewable!

Knowaste

Do you Knowaste?

The annual Santa Fe County Fair (July 31st-Aug 3rd) is proud to welcome the services of Knowaste. Knowaste is an organization that is dedicated to reducing waste by teaching the public what options can be taken before sending items to the landfill. The company stresses the importance of composting, sorting stations, and proper disposal of “contaminated” recyclables. Learn about the consequences of throwing items in the landfill. Bring your own refillable water bottle and ask Knowaste your questions about recycling.

Water Conservation is Always in Season!

July is one of the highest water-use months, which makes it a great time to think about your water use. Did you know that most water wasted inside the home is from a leaky toilet - one that you may not even notice? To check if your toilet is leaking, put 4-5 drops of blue food coloring in the tank and wait 15 minutes (no flushing!). If the water in the bowl turns blue, you probably have a leaking 'flapper'. Fortunately, it's an easy fix. To learn more about how you can conserve water, visit the recently revised Sustainability's Water Wise Page.
