Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNSFB) will hold meeting in New Mexico
On September 25, 2018, the Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners approved a Letter of Support for the suspension of the implementation of Order 140.1 to allow the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB), Congress, affected state and local governments, and the public sufficient time to review and comment on Order 140.1. Order 140.1 is a new order restricting the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board access to some of the most dangerous nuclear facilities across the country. This initiative was sponsored by Commission Chair Anna C. Hansen.
Following the submission of Santa Fe County’s letter, Senator Tom Udall and Senator Martin Heinrich contacted Secretary of Energy Rick Perry supporting the request of Santa Fe County that the Department of Energy suspend implementation of the recent Order 140.1 in New Mexico as well as requesting a public hearing.
It was recently announced that the DNSFB will be holding two (2) additional hearing on DOE Order 140.1- one in New Mexico this winter and the other in Washington D.C. this fall. Details are pending at this time.
Santa Fe County would like to thank Senators Udall and Heinrich for their support on this issue and ongoing assistance and collaboration with Santa Fe County on these important issues.
