Taxes: Down!
 |
|
Since you won't see this in the news, we are excited to report that property taxes are going down!
Property taxes will decrease in 2025 by 2.28% for residential taxpayers!
Non-residential rates are down slightly, an average of 0.06%.
These decreases are based on a yield control formula that factors in inflation, new construction, and increase in value of properties.

2024 Food Drive Challenge
San Juan County has again challenged the municipalities to a (friendly) food drive competition. The challenge: Which group can collect the most food for ECHO Food Bank. Over the last 15 years, more than 114 tons of food have been collected and it is the biggest food drive of the year for ECHO.
There are collection points in many County and municipal buildings and you can participate by dropping off non-perishable food at any collection point. See the list above for specific needs.
San Juan County Improves Bond Rating!
Moody's Ratings has awarded San Juan County an improved bond rating, now Aa3!
The improvement is due to the County's ability to repay debt as well as a reduction in debt overall.
The rating is mostly for investors who may purchase bonds, which would be issued by the county to fund large capital projects, however, the County has not issued new bond debt since 2009, and is on track to pay off all outstanding debt by 2037.

Crisis Triage Center Study Update
In response to the growing demand for behavioral health services, San Juan County partnered with RI International to develop a comprehensive business plan for a Crisis Triage Center (CTC). The County department heads, community representatives, key stakeholders, and external consultants worked together to create this plan.
The business plan ensures that the CTC will be feasible and sustainable while aligning with San Juan County's strategic objectives. It positions the county to secure funding, move forward with strategic initiatives, begin construction, and manage the facility once operational. The center will provide critical services to the community.
The Crisis Triage Center will operate 24/7, welcoming individuals experiencing behavioral health crises. The CTC will be a crucial resource for law enforcement, the detention center, hospitals, and individuals seeking behavioral health treatment. The planned facility will cover 9,000 square feet and feature recliners and beds to assist those in need. Its "no wrong door" approach ensures that anyone in the community can access its services.
The County Commission recently identified the CTC as a top capital project. With legislative funding, the county aims to turn the CTC concept into reality in the next few years.
The business plan, a roadmap to our long-term success, outlines the strategic direction, operational framework, and financial projections necessary for the Crisis Triage Center's (CTC) success. It underscores how the CTC will effectively meet San Juan County's growing behavioral health needs, benefiting not only those in crisis but also taxpayers and the broader community.
