Here are a few answers:

•If you have residential structural damage from the storm, contact your homeowners or flood insurance company.

•If you have issues related to County Maintained roads please call Public Works at (505) 334-4520 (Non-County Maintained Roads are not maintained by the County)

•If you did not have flood insurance but would like to get more information about flood insurance – floodsmart.gov

Flood insurance is the only sure way for damages to be covered.

Structural damage is the only recoverable damage – residential accessory structures can be covered by flood insurance but only if specifically added to a policy.

Landscaping is not covered by the National Flood Insurance Program insurance.

The San Juan County Communication Authority was recently recognized for the FOURTH time as an Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE) for emergency medical dispatching through the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED)! 

IAED is the standard-setting organization for emergency dispatch services worldwide. Accreditation (and subsequent re-accreditation) from the IAED is the highest distinction given to emergency communication centers, certifying that the center is performing at or above the established standards for the industry.

We couldn’t be more proud of the team, who continues to dedicate countless hours towards continuing education and studying approved medical protocol to provide the best service possible to our community!

San Juan County Fire & Rescue is the 2024 National Association of Counties Achievement Award Recipient for Septic Safe San Juan!
The Septic Safe campaign makes 14 San Juan County NM programs to earn the award since 2006.
The education campaign is in its second season and aims to educate people about the dangers of open or unsecured septic tanks and eliminate child drownings or near drownings in septic tanks.
The materials created for the campaign are available to any group that wishes to use it and has already been replicated state-wide, and requested for use in other states.
The program is spearheaded by Fire Chief David Vega and Division Chief Shay Aurnhammer has coordinated meetings with stakeholders and made presentations far and wide to different groups.
Congrats to the SJCFR staff for being recognized for all their hard work!

When you get this message, there will only be a few more days that Fireworks are on sale for the Independence Day holiday. No matter though, safety is year-round!

Before you even buy fireworks, consider where you plan to light them. The basic rule is: if you buy them in the county, they are only legal in the county. If you buy them in the city, there are different rules, and they are legal everywhere. But, city-bought fireworks aren't any 'safer'. Here are the safety rules: 

ALWAYS light fireworks on paved or barren ground

ALWAYS read and follow label directions

ALWAYS ignite fireworks outside

ALWAYS have a readily accessible water source

ALWAYS light one firework at a time

ALWAYS store fireworks in a cool dry place

ALWAYS dispose of fireworks properly

NEVER re-ignite malfunctioning fireworks

NEVER let small children handle fireworks

NEVER try to make your own fireworks

NEVER throw fireworks at another person

NEVER shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers

Don't forget: McGee Park's north parking lot will be open for fireworks until 10pm, through July 7th. Please clean up after your self and be safe!

On June 7, San Juan County Fire & Rescue implemented burn restrictions for the City of Bloomfield, the Town of Kirtland, and unincorporated parts of the county.
Open burning will ONLY be allowed from 7:00 am to noon on days when the weather allows for safe burn conditions. This includes burning cropland, fields, rangeland, debris burning, slash piles, prescribed burning, or weed burning. Burn permits will not be issued after noon and on days with red flag warnings or high winds.
All open burning will be prohibited on red flag days.

Recent rain in the county has helped, but we have not yet seen enough precipitation to change the fire danger and loosen these restrictions. Conditions continue to change. 
We will continue to monitor conditions daily and in the long-term and update these restrictions as needed.

Please help us welcome the newest deputies to the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office!

These nine deputies graduated Friday after a grueling academy full of testing in the areas of driving, de-escalation, criminal statutes, defensive tactics, and firearms.

They will have another month of required in-house training before assignment to a field training officer where the real work begins! We are proud of this group for their tenacity to reach this point!
