San Juan County Manager Mike Stark
At the October 18, 2022 County Commission meeting, the County Commission approved resolution 22-23-30, Supporting Operation Green Light for Veterans. This initiative, endorsed by both the National Association of Counties and New Mexico Association of Counties, is a new program designed to spread awareness on the plight of veterans who are having a hard time connecting with benefits after serving their country.
In an effort to show the great respect, admiration, and the utmost gratitude for all men and women who have selflessly served our country and San Juan County in the Armed Forces, the County Commission designated San Juan County as a Green Light for Veterans County and declared October 18th through Veterans Day, November 11th, a time to salute and honor the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform transitioning from active service.
In observance of Operation Green Light, San Juan County encourages all citizens in patriotic tradition to recognize the importance of honoring all those who made immeasurable sacrifices to preserve freedom by displaying a green light in a window of their place or residence.

San Juan County Fire & Rescue
There is something about the winter months and curling up with a good book by the fireplace. But did you know that heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fire deaths?
With a few simple safety tips and precautions you can prevent most heating fires from happening. be warm and safe this winter!
• Keep anything that can burn at least three-feet away from heating equipment, like the furnace, fireplace, wood stove, or portable space heater. • Have a three-foot “kid-free zone” around open fires and space heaters. • Never use your oven to heat your home. • Have a qualified professional install stationary space heating equipment, water heaters or central heating equipment according to the local codes and manufacturer’s instructions. • Have heating equipment and chimneys cleaned and inspected every year by a qualified professional. • Remember to turn portable heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed. • Always use the right kind of fuel, specified by the manufacturer, for fuel burning space heaters. • Make sure the fireplace has a sturdy screen to stop sparks from flying into the room. Ashes should be cool before putting them in a metal container. Keep the container a safe distance away from your home. • Test smoke alarms at least once a month.
Following these tips will keep you from having to call us, but never hesitate to call 911 in the case of an emergency!
