Planning for the Future
In 2021, San Juan County undertook a process to plan for initiatives to Build a Better Community over the coming years. In a six-month process, community members, elected leaders, and staff identified opportunities to continue the progress in our county.
The process started with brainstorming and hundreds of ideas. From there, the list was refined, then ranked by feasibility, fiscal impact, time requirements and other factors. The top 20 initiatives were identified and ordered by time frame for substantial completion.
In September of 2021, the San Juan County Commission adopted the list of initiatives to be undertaken over the next 5 years.
The initiatives are placed in four categories focusing on People, Place, Economy, and Relations. Each pillar is important for a wholistic-approach to a healthy community.
The initiatives will be a focal-point for County staff, however, these may morph to better fit the needs of the community.

Congratulations to Denis Haun of Flora Vista for being chosen as the Yard of the Month!
Thank you to Mr. Haun for making San Juan County a more beautiful place to live!
Do you know of a property in the unincorporated parts of San Juan County that is beautiful?
The San Juan County Commission recognizes one yard or property every month for its beauty, unique style, or the hard work and dedication of its owner in making San Juan County beautiful. It doesn't have to be green, just well maintained! If you would like to submit a property for review, contact Codes Compliance Officer Robert Carman at (505) 333-3130 to submit a nomination.
Let’s show our appreciation for those who set the example and make San Juan County Beautiful.
