Third public meeting on Advanced Clean Cars II, Advanced Clean Trucks, and Heavy-duty Omnibus rules
Monday, October 16, 2023, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., the rulemaking team invites you to its last of three public meetings on the proposed clean car and truck rule amendments. The proposed Advanced Clean Cars II rule directs vehicle manufacturers to deliver an increased number of zero-emission light-duty passenger cars and trucks to New Mexico, starting with model year 2027. By the end of the rule in 2032, it ensures that over 80% of new cars and trucks delivered to New Mexico for sale have zero tail pipe emissions. Similarly, the proposed Advanced Clean Trucks rule guarantees that 40-75% of new medium and heavy-duty trucks delivered for sale are zero-emission vehicles by 2035.
The meeting on October 16 is from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Community Meeting Room at the International District Library, 7601 Central Ave NE in Albuquerque. A 30-minute presentation will cover the rules, their benefits, and the rule adoption process. After the presentation, attendees can speak to experts about the rules and their benefits, the charging infrastructure in New Mexico, electric vehicles and other zero-tail pipe emission options, consumer rebates on home charging, and additional actions New Mexico agencies and collaborating partners are implementing to address climate change. Spanish interpreters will be available.
Members of the public may submit comments at the meeting or here.
The New Mexico Environmental Improvement Board and the Albuquerque-Bernalillo County Air Quality Control Board will hold a joint hearing to consider the amendments to the proposed rules for their independent jurisdictions beginning November 13, 2023. The hearing will begin at 9 am in the Bigbee Auditorium at the New Mexico State Bar Center, 5121 Masthead St NE, Albuquerque. Details, including how to provide public comment during the hearing, will be available on the NMED calendar.
