Air Quality Bureau Announces New Initiative to Post Excess Emissions Online
The NMED Air Quality Bureau announces a new initiative to post excess emissions online on a monthly basis. The data will include facilities, pollutants, quantities, and duration and cause of the event. Excess emissions contribute to degrading air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, and likely contribute to exceedances of the ozone standard. Posting this information will highlight the extent and volume of these excess emissions. Permitted facilities that exceed their allowable emission limits are required to submit an excess emissions report to the Department, which may result in enforcement action. Note that the posted data only includes excess emissions required to be reported under 20.2.7 NMAC, and an Affirmative Defense evaluation has not been performed for these events.
