On Nov. 1, 2025, Bernalillo County broke ground on the New Mexico COVID-19 Memorial, honoring lives lost and shared pandemic experiences. Located at the Dr. E.A. “Swede” Scholer Regional Recreation Complex, it will feature artist-designed, papel picado-inspired panels.
One of the first publicly funded COVID-19 memorials in the U.S., it received about $1 million in state funding and is expected to open in 2026.

At the March 11 meeting, the Bernalillo County Commission recognized Albuquerque Public Schools 2026 Selfless Seniors for service, kindness and leadership, along with photographer Frank Frost, who founded the program 18 years ago. Watch to hear how these students are making a difference.

The county is gathering feedback on ordinance 2019-16 which states that a retail establishment shall not provide at the point of sale a single-use plastic carryout bag or single-use polystyrene container to any customer.
