Genetic History classes address ancestral lines, ancient civilizations, genetic history, haplogroups, and DNA connections to many civilizations including New Mexico families.
Tuesday, July 16, 2024 - 4 to 6 p.m.
The Meso-American Connection to New Mexico Families (Mt-DNA Haplogroups A & C)
Mesoamerica is a region and cultural area in the Americas, extending approximately from central Mexico to Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and northern Costa Rica, within which a number of pre-Columbian societies flourished before the Spanish colonization of the Americas in the 15th and 16th centuries. We will explore the connection between certain New Mexican families and the Mēxihcahs, the Tlaxcallāns, and the Chichimecas.
Tuesday, August 13, 2024 - 10 to 11:30 a.m.
The Hisatsinom (Anasazi) Connection to New Mexico Families (Mt-DNA Haplogroup B)
Ancient Pueblo peoples (Hisatsinom) were an ancient Native American culture centered on the present-day Four Corners area of the United States, comprising southern Utah, northeastern Arizona, northern New Mexico, and southwestern Colorado. They lived in a range of structures, including pit houses, pueblos, and cliff dwellings designed so that they could lift entry ladders during enemy attacks, which provided security. The connection between certain New Mexican families and the Hisatsinom will be explored.
These classes are presented by Paleographer and Genetic Genealogical Researcher, Angel de Cervantes.
Short films will be shown to trace the history of the ancient civilizations discussed in each session. No recording or playback of the Genetic History Class.
