The Search for Mt-DNA Eve
Tuesday, May 7, 2024 - 4 to 6 p.m.
Mitochondrial DNA is passed from mother to children, both male and female, unchanged and it mutates at a predictable rate; i.e., the more the genetic mutations in the DNA, the more ancient the origin of the population. Using these facts, some scientists studying mitochondrial DNA are trying to trace back the origins of the human race. Using this method, scientists have traced the human race to one female in Africa several million years ago and traced the migration patterns of her descendants as they spread across the earth. A documentary will be shown which traces the history of Mt-DNA analysis and we will discuss the impact of Mt-DNA on family history and how it can validate maternal lines.
