"In the Garden of Sharing" by PAZ. Public Art Program: Riordan Foundation, Working Classroom, Albuquerque Community Foundation. Mural was designed to reflect sharing as one of the four core values of Jennifer Riordan.
“Art is medicine; a person should walk away from a work of art feeling better than they did before they experienced it.” - PAZ
PAZ is an Indigenous artist who engages the community through tradition, art and dance. Known as a skilled painter, sculptor, tile artist, jeweler and dancer, PAZ has practiced his craft for nearly fifty years.
Through his art, PAZ is able to incorporate an array of styles from traditional to futuristic. He enjoys taking these styles and working with them until he finds the space between. With a belief that public art mirrors society, PAZ’s work is aesthetically pleasing and enhances the environment in which it lives.
“I utilize design motifs that resonate with the chosen location and exhibit cultural awareness… I allow the surrounding environment, both physical and social, to define what form the artwork will manifest.” - PAZ
At Bernalillo County, we are excited to share the progress of his newest piece located on Bridge Boulevard and Tower Road, as shown in the photo below. The new mural combines fired clay pieces created by local students with painted scenes depicting the history, landscapes, and cultures of the area.
