Featured Artist: Natalie Voelker

Based in Albuquerque, Natalie Voelker creates work that examines the human form in a complex and experiential manner. Through her paintings, drawings, murals and installations, she is able to capture her subject in the moment as well as to provide a feeling of transcendence to the viewer.

Natalie Voelker is a Helene Wurlitzer Foundation fellow and international BP Portrait Award exhibitor. Recognized internationally, her painting, “Davetta,” was exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London as well as the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and the Ulster Museum in Ireland. Moreover, Voelker has produced commissioned works for the Harwood Art Center, 508 Mural Festival, and the City of Albuquerque and has been featured in multiple publications.

Bernalillo County is delighted to include Natalie Voelker’s painting, “Toyota Whisperer” in the public art collection. We invite you to visit her painting in person on the seventh floor of Bernalillo County @ Alvarado Square located at 415 Silver Avenue SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102.

Located throughout the county, the Bernalillo County public art collection enhances quality of life through the acquisition of exceptional works of art by artists at various career stages.”

About Us

Bernalillo County's Public Art Program was established in 1992 with the adoption of the county’s Art in Public Places Ordinance, enacted in 1992 (revised 1997).

The county's Public Art Program believes that public art can:

• Energize public spaces, inspire thought, and transform live, work and play places
• Heighten awareness, question assumptions, transform the landscape, express community values, and help define a community’s identity
• Have an economic benefit for a community by attracting visitors, and by supporting artists and local businesses

The program currently has more than 500 works of art, most of which can be viewed via the Public Art Collection Story Map and Betty Sabo Inventory Story Map.
